CLASS SUMMARY: This position is responsible for performing engineering tasks for assigned complex civil engineering projects. Responsibilities may include preparing engineering plans; specifications and bid packages; conducting construction inspections and reviewing inspection reports; certifying quantities for the contractor’s payment. Responsibilities may include supervising staff.
TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

Prepares with medium level of supervision, plans, specifications, and bid packages for water main, sewer line, paving and parking lot projects in accordance with current regulations and codes.

Reviews initial project design drawings with related utility companies to ensure electric, gas, and other utility lines are placed correctly.

Inspects construction projects of medium complexity to ensure compliance with specifications, contracts, and plans; reviews and occasionally prepares inspection reports and makes necessary revisions.

Performs commercial and residential plan reviews of medium complexity.

Assigns and supervises work to subordinate staff.

Performs cost estimates, hydraulic studies, basis of design for sewers, project management and other related tasks.

Responds to related inquiries and complaints from the public.

Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance, including attendance at required meetings.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and 3 years of related experience. Experience in design of sewer line, water main and street paving preferred. Experience in AutoCad drafting required.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid State of Michigan Driver’s License
