Responsibilities
Provide a warm, welcoming experience for all patients and visitors.
Guide patients through self-arrival technology or assist with traditional check-in based on patient preference.
Collect copayments and other applicable patient payments at the point of service.
Confirm and update patient registration and demographic information during check-in and checkout.
Schedule follow-up appointments within the practice and connect patients with resources to schedule ancillary services as needed.
Help patients navigate the healthcare system by providing clear, understandable instructions and ensuring continuity of care through follow-up on unresolved questions or needs.
Demonstrate service recovery principles by taking appropriate action to address concerns and ensure an exceptional UPMC patient experience.
Register patients in the biometric (fingerprint recognition) program and educate them on its benefits.
Promote the MyUPMC patient portal and assist patients with registration and utilization when appropriate.
Educate patients regarding financial responsibilities and connect them with financial advocacy resources as needed.
Verify insurance coverage and benefits through online verification systems and telephone inquiries.
Obtain required patient and family signatures for consent to treatment and financial responsibility in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Answer, screen, and appropriately route incoming telephone calls to providers, clinical staff, and other departments.
Perform administrative duties including scanning medical records, processing documentation, and faxing.
Maintain knowledge of the UPMC Patient Portal and confidently educate patients on portal navigation, access to health information, and available care services.
Support efficient daily office operations while delivering outstanding customer service and patient-centered care.
Completion of high school graduate or equivalent is required.
Experience with personal computer-based applications, other various office equipment and proficient typing skills are preferred.
Two years of experience in a medical / billing / fiscal or customer service function is preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred. Prior experience with Medipac, Epic, or other health records systems is preferred.
