Dave’s Diesel Service is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic for an immediate opening.
Position Summary: Mechanic will perform repairs and diagnosis of major components and remove/replace major components of various heavy duty truck and trailer equipment at the direction of Service Advisors. Expectations include the ability to diagnose and repair the following with little or no supervision: Clutches, PTO Systems, Electric Systems, Hydraulic/ Air Brake systems, Heating/ Air Conditioning Systems, Instruments and Gauges, and Preventive Maintenance Service.
Detail of Responsibilities:
Demonstrate proficiency in the diagnosis and repair of power train to include differentials, transmissions, clutches, drive shafts, PTO's and wheel ends, Electrical systems including starters and alternators, HVAC systems, steering systems, Electronics to include ECM's, ECU's, sensors etc., engine bolt on items such as turbos, fan clutches, injectors, cooling system etc., Brake systems including ABS, Suspension systems (spring and air)
Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery. Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units
Identify warrantable repairs and document on repair order. Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches and welding equipment. Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists. Inspect and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices. Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications
Document tasks and time to perform repairs using paper and computer entry
Navigate vendor websites in able to identify steps to perform repairs
If CDL holder, road test Vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that repaired items are working properly
Maintain work area appearance and safety
Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications:
Four or more years practical experience with heavy duty truck and trailer maintenance required
High school diploma or equivalent required
Vocational/Technical or certification preferred
Specialized training in the repair and replacement of vehicle components preferred
Proficiency in the use of shop tools required
A valid driver's license is required; current CDL license with air brake certification preferred, willingness to acquire CDL if you do not have one.
Basic computer skills preferred for data entry into maintenance systems.

Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job. Hours are from 7:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday. Willingness to work on Saturday, if needed.
Wage and Benefits:
Hourly wage expected between $25 - $37 per hour based on experience. Health Insurance provided for employee after 60 days. Spouse and dependent healthcare, dental, short-term liability coverage also available. Uniforms provided. Mechanic must provide hand tools.
Dave’s Diesel Service is located at 4702 SE US Highway, St. Joseph, MO 64507. We are a family owned business in operation since 1972. We provide warranty for Freightliner, Cummins, Detroit and Caterpillar; And we service all makes of Class 7-8 Heavy Duty Trucks; including Peterbilt, Kenworth, International, Western Star Mack and others.
