Insulation Superintendent – Job DescriptionPosition Summary
**THIS POSITION WILL BE BASED IN WEST ALLIS, WI - INTERVIEW HELD IN ROUND LAKE, IL**
The Insulation Superintendent is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all field operations for commercial and industrial insulation projects. This position ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with company standards, project specifications, manufacturer requirements, and applicable building codes. The Superintendent serves as the primary field leader, providing guidance, training, and support to field personnel while maintaining strong customer relationships.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesField Operations
- Plan, organize, and supervise all insulation field activities.
- Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and subcontractors.
- Ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
- Review project plans, specifications, contracts, and scope of work before project start.
- Conduct jobsite visits to monitor progress and resolve field issues.
- Coordinate work with project managers, general contractors, owners, and other trades.
- Anticipate and resolve scheduling conflicts or jobsite challenges.
Personnel Management
- Supervise foremen, lead installers, installers, apprentices, and subcontractors.
- Assign daily work responsibilities and establish production goals.
- Train and mentor field employees on installation techniques, safety, and quality standards.
- Monitor employee performance, attendance, and productivity.
- Conduct performance evaluations and recommend promotions, disciplinary actions, or additional training.
- Foster teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.
Safety
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and all company safety policies.
- Conduct routine jobsite safety inspections.
- Lead toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Verify employees are properly trained and using required PPE.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses and implement corrective actions.
- Stop work immediately when unsafe conditions exist.
Quality Control
- Ensure all insulation installations meet project specifications, manufacturer installation guidelines, and company quality standards.
- Verify proper installation of fiberglass, spray polyurethane foam (SPF), cellulose, mineral wool, firestopping systems, acoustical insulation, and specialty insulation products, as applicable.
- Inspect completed work and identify deficiencies before customer inspections.
- Maintain thorough quality control documentation.
- Coordinate corrective work when necessary.
Material & Equipment Management
- Coordinate timely delivery of materials and equipment.
- Monitor inventory and minimize material waste.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of insulation materials.
- Oversee maintenance and safe operation of company vehicles, trailers, spray foam rigs, blowing machines, and jobsite equipment.
- Report equipment maintenance needs promptly.
Customer Relations
- Serve as the primary field representative for the company.
- Maintain professional relationships with customers, general contractors, inspectors, and project stakeholders.
- Address customer concerns promptly and professionally.
- Provide project updates and communicate changes affecting schedule or scope.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Complete daily job reports and field documentation.
- Track labor hours, production, and equipment usage.
- Document change orders, delays, and field conditions.
- Assist with project scheduling and manpower forecasting.
- Support estimating and project management with field feedback.
- Participate in project planning and closeout meetings.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of commercial insulation field experience.
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Extensive knowledge of commercial insulation systems and installation methods.
- Ability to read blueprints, specifications, and construction documents.
- Strong understanding of building envelope systems and firestop requirements.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety practices.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
