Music Teacher (K-12th grade) Job Description
Our Lady of the Elms School, a private Catholic school rooted in the Dominican tradition, educates girls and young women to live their lives boldly with purpose, confidence, kindness, resilience, justice and faith.
As the only all-girls, faith-based K–12 school in Summit County, the Elms is seeking a full-time, exempt Music Teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year beginning in August 2026. The Music Teacher will work under the supervision of the Principal and be supported by a Team Lead.
The ideal candidate will foster a nurturing, academically rigorous, and faith-filled classroom environment where young learners can thrive intellectually, socially, spiritually, and emotionally.
As an educator, you will prepare students for performances and liturgical celebrations and create an inclusive classroom where every student is encouraged to grow artistically and spiritually, keeping the school’s mission and Dominican identity at the heart of all instruction.
Major Responsibilities
Instructional Planning, Delivery & Classroom Management:
- Develop and deliver engaging, age-appropriate music instruction for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12.
- Teach music theory, vocal and instrumental techniques, music appreciation, music history, and performance skills.
- Conduct auditions, rehearsals, and co-direct school plays.
- Prepare students for school concerts, assemblies, liturgies, Masses, graduations, and other special events.
- Collaborate with campus ministry and school leadership to coordinate music for Catholic liturgical celebrations throughout the school year.
- Assess student progress using a variety of instructional and performance-based assessment methods.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of students.
- Create a positive, respectful, and engaging classroom environment that supports creativity and student confidence.
- Integrate technology and innovative instructional practices into music education where appropriate.
- Maintain musical instruments, equipment, and classroom resources, ensuring their proper care and organization.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, performances, and classroom expectations.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and extracurricular activities.
- Model Christian values and uphold the philosophy, mission, and teachings of the Catholic Church.
Faith-Based Spirituality

- Demonstrate a commitment to the Dominican pillars of study, preaching, community, and prayer in your teaching
Salary Range: $40,000 - $50,000 (varies by years of experience, multiple credentials, extra services, and academic recommendations)
Core Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Valid State of Ohio teaching certification or eligibility for certification in the applicable jurisdiction.
- Experience teaching music across elementary, middle, and/or high school grade levels preferred.
- Strong vocal and/or instrumental performance skills.
- Experience directing choirs, ensembles, or musical productions is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of Catholic liturgical music and worship traditions is preferred.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and instruct for extended periods.
- Ability to conduct rehearsals and performances.
- Ability to lift and transport musical instruments and equipment up to 25 pounds as needed.
Working Environment
This position is based in a private Catholic school serving girls in Kindergarten through Grade 12. The Music Teacher works in classrooms, rehearsal spaces, chapels, auditoriums, and outdoor venues as needed, with occasional evening or weekend commitments for concerts, liturgies, performances, and school events.
