Job Description
The Housing Navigator assists individuals experiencing homelessness to find appropriate permanent housing solutions. They will facilitate connections with landlords and available programs. They will work with each tenant to address issues that may hinder housing stability (examples: income, evictions and arrears). Offers supports to tenants to allow them to sustain permanent housing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Housing Acquisition
- Establish and maintain partnerships with landlords and property management companies
- Maintain current knowledge of local housing stock and various landlord requirements
- Provide tenant education in collaboration with Homestead Resources
- Conduct Housing Quality Standards inspections and Rent Reasonableness evaluations for all units being considered for financial assistance
Housing Retention
- Monitor participants' housing stability and be available to resolve crises, at a minimum during the time housing assistance is provided
- Provide the household with connections to resources that help them achieve their long term goals identified in their housing stability plan. Resources include: Health care needs, income/employment, community-based services (long-term case management needs)
- Maintain follow-up contact with on-going guests until resolution
Maintain HMIS data entries in a timely manner for reporting requirements
Maintain documentation for grant compliance
Advocate on behalf of guests' best
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Associates Degree in Social Work or related field; or one year of experience in directly related field
- Valid driver's license and dependable access to transportation. Must maintain vehicle liability insurance and able to provide a copy for personnel file
- Knowledge of homeless services programming and federal grant requirements preferred
- Serve as a passionate and informed advocate for ending homelessness
- Must maintain philosophy of the TEAM approach (Together Everyone Accomplishes the Mission)
