to join our dynamic team.
Job Overview
The Overhead Crane Service Technician is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of overhead cranes, hoists, and related lifting equipment. This role exists to restore equipment to safe operating condition, minimize downtime for customers, and uphold the company’s reputation for dependable service work.
Technicians are expected to perform high-quality repairs with strong attention to safety, workmanship, and accountability.
Core Responsibilities & Standards
1. Technical Work Quality
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and structural issues on overhead cranes and hoists
- Perform repairs and replacements in accordance with OSHA, ASME B30, CMAA standards, and applicable manufacturer specifications
- Verify proper operation of all repaired systems before leaving the job site
- Do not perform “temporary fixes” unless explicitly approved and documented
- Ensure all work is completed correctly the first time whenever possible
2. Safety & Compliance (Non-Negotiable)
- Follow all governing body guidelines; OSHA, ASME, ANSI, CMAA regulations and customer site safety requirements at all times
- Use proper lockout/tagout procedures without exception
- Never bypass safety devices or return equipment to service in an unsafe condition
- Immediately stop work and report any unsafe conditions or unforeseen hazards
- Maintain strict compliance with fall protection and rigging safety practices when applicable
3. Work Execution & Efficiency
- Work efficiently without sacrificing safety or quality
- Use time on-site effectively to reduce repeat visits and downtime
- Properly plan repairs before execution when possible (tools, parts, access requirements)
- Communicate delays or additional scope requirements immediately to supervision and/or customer contact
4. Documentation & Communication
- Accurately document all work performed, parts used, and conditions found
- Clearly note any additional deficiencies discovered during service work
- Provide factual, professional communication to customers, no speculation or assumptions
- Do not commit to pricing, scope changes, or additional work outside of authorization process
- Ensure all service reports are completed and submitted promptly after job completion
- Ensure work hours are accurate and documented daily
5. Equipment, Tools & Vehicle Responsibility
- Maintain assigned vehicle, tools, and test equipment in clean, safe, and service-ready condition
- Report damaged, missing, or malfunctioning tools immediately
- Ensure all rigging gear and safety equipment is inspected and fit for use
- Keep service truck organized to support fast and efficient field response
6. Professional Conduct
- Represent Noble Crane & Rigging professionally at all customer locations
- Maintain a problem-solving, customer-focused attitude while staying within scope of work
- Work collaboratively with inspectors, supervisors, and customer maintenance teams
- Avoid arguments or unnecessary conflict on-site—escalate issues when needed
Performance Expectations
Technicians are evaluated on:
- Quality and reliability of repairs performed
- First-time fix rate and reduction of repeat service calls
- Safety compliance and incident-free performance
- Timeliness and efficiency of job completion
- Accuracy and completeness of service documentation
- Customer satisfaction and professionalism in the field
Non-Negotiable Standards
- No unsafe equipment returned to service
- No undocumented repairs or parts usage
- No bypassing safety procedures or LOTO requirements
- No incomplete service reports
- No unauthorized scope changes or commitments to customers
Education
- A high school diploma
- Vocational-technical school or crane training program, trade school, equivalent military experience or technical college training program preferred
Requirements
- Electrical experience preferred
- Solid mechanical and troubleshooting skills
- Basic to advanced electrical knowledge
- Experience working on cranes or heavy equipment strongly preferred
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Familiarity with hydraulic and control systems is a plus
- Willingness to stay educated in the crane industry
- Basic understanding and working knowledge of all OSHA, ANSI, CMAA, and other codes or regulations pertaining to our crane service industry; must be able to get specific regulations if requested
- Excellent people skills to communicate with inter-company personnel and customers and promote excellent customer relationships at all times
- Valid driver's license in good standing that meets company requirements
- Heavy Lifting/Pulling (min 75lbs.) is generally a part of this type of work and because of the nature of the duties
- Ability to work at heights greater than six feet off of the ground
