Safe Passages is a nonprofit organization committed to strengthening the well-being, academic success, and economic self-sufficiency of children, youth, and families. AmeriCorps VISTA members build the long-term capacity of Safe Passages and its partner sites by developing systems, tools, and partnerships that expand access to critical services across Oakland and the Bay Area.
Safe Passages VISTA members serve in various departments, including Food Security, Health & Wellness, Program Development, and Community Engagement, to improve program effectiveness and organization sustainability. Members work on projects such as developing internal systems, supporting with data collection and evaluation, strengthening outreach and communications, expanding volunteer engagement, and research best practices to inform program design. Members serve as part of a team and collaborate with staff and community partners to increase the organization’s ability to meet community needs.
Resource Development
- Support Safe Passages resources development efforts by researching potential fundraising opportunities, grant writing, and supporting other fundraising efforts, including donor communications.
- Length: VISTA requires a full-time, 12-month commitment
- Schedule: Typically Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm; occasional night and weekend events
- Living allowance of $1,320 every two weeks (before taxes and deductions)
- Choice of Education Award or End-of-Service Stipend
