Member Duties : The AmeriCorps VISTA member will support expanded access to dental care for low-income individuals in rural Huntingdon County, PA, through Broad Top Area Medical Center (BTAMC) as a Year 2 project. In collaboration with Juniata’s Center for Community Engagement and Public Health program, they will develop educational campaigns (brochures, flyers, social media) to raise awareness about dental services and preventive care, and organize workshops, health fairs, and school programs to promote oral health. The VISTA will also create or improve referral systems to connect individuals with care, addressing barriers like transportation. They will track service data and outcomes to enhance outreach efforts, build partnerships with local organizations, and assist with fundraising and grant writing to ensure long-term support for BTAMC’s dental services. This project improves access to care, reduces health disparities, and fosters partnerships to combat poverty as a social determinant of health.
