Position overview
An established aviation training company in Fort Lauderdale is seeking a reliable and hands-on Staff Accountant to support its day-to-day accounting and financial operations.
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for a broad range of activities, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, cash-flow reporting and monthly closing. The position will work closely with local management and an international finance team.
We are looking for someone who combines solid accounting knowledge with a practical, service-oriented approach. The successful candidate must be comfortable taking ownership of accounting processes, working independently and supporting colleagues in an operational environment.

Key responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and complete accounting records.
- Ensure financial transactions are correctly recorded in the general ledger.
- Process supplier invoices, employee expenses and vendor payments.
- Manage accounts receivable, including customer invoicing, recording payments and following up on overdue balances.
- Perform bank, credit-card and balance-sheet account reconciliations.
- Monitor cash balances and prepare weekly cash-flow forecasts.
- Prepare journal entries, accruals and supporting documentation for monthly and year-end closing.
- Assist with monthly financial reporting and investigate significant variances or unusual transactions.
- Reconcile intercompany transactions and balances.
- Coordinate payroll information with an external payroll provider.
- Maintain fixed-asset records for aircraft, training equipment, vehicles and other assets.
- Support accounting and cost follow-up relating to aviation operations, maintenance, fuel and training activities.
- Maintain accurate vendor and customer information and ensure transactions are properly documented and approved.
- Assist with budgets, forecasts and financial analysis.
- Prepare documentation for external accountants, auditors and tax advisers.
- Support applicable federal, state and local reporting requirements, including sales and use tax where relevant.
- Help document, maintain and improve internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Provide accounting support to management and operational departments.
- Perform other accounting and administrative duties as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field is preferred.
- At least two to four years of relevant accounting experience.
- Practical experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger accounting and account reconciliations.
- Good understanding of accounting principles and month-end closing processes.
- Experience using accounting software and strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and work independently.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and confidentiality.
- Ability to work effectively with both finance and non-finance colleagues.
- Authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
Experience in aviation, education, training operations or an international organization would be an advantage but is not required.
