Safety Coordinator – Trucking Operations

Position Summary
The Safety Specialist supports the DOT Safety & Compliance Manager in executing all safety, regulatory, and compliance initiatives across the fleet. This role plays a critical part in monitoring driver performance, ensuring adherence to FMCSA regulations, reducing risk, and promoting a strong safety culture throughout the organization. The Safety Specialist assists with driver coaching and training, telematic data reviews, hours-of-service compliance and proactive safety programs designed to improve overall fleet performance.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Monitoring
- Monitor driver Hours of Service (HOS), ELD alerts, unsafe driving events, and roadside inspection results.
- Review and track violations such as speeding, following too close, stop-sign violations, and other unsafe behaviors.
- Support the DOT Safety & Compliance Manager in preparing for DOT audits, internal audits, and compliance reviews.
- Ensure driver qualification files, medical cards, MVRs, and training records remain current and complete.
Safety Program Administration
- Conduct regular safety meetings and driver coaching sessions.
- Assist with developing and delivering training on topics such as defensive driving, HOS compliance, and company policies.
- Support implementation and execution of progressive discipline programs for safety violations.
Incident & Accident Management
- Participate in accident investigations, root-cause analysis, and documentation.
- Gather statements, photos, telematics data, and other evidence for incident files.
- Assist with claims reporting and communication with insurance partners when needed.
Telematics & Technology Oversight
- Monitor dashcam events, telematics alerts, and GPS data for unsafe driving behaviors.
- Provide coaching feedback to drivers based on video review and event analysis.
- Support rollout of new safety technologies and ensure proper driver usage.
Fleet Safety Support
- Assist drivers with ELD setup, login, and troubleshooting.
- Assist with DVIR compliance and follow-up on maintenance-related safety issues.
Qualifications
- Experience in trucking, transportation safety, or DOT compliance preferred.
- Working knowledge of FMCSA regulations, HOS rules, CSA scoring, and ELD systems.
- Experience with Motive preferred.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to coach drivers effectively.
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions.
- Proficiency with safety software, telematics platforms, and Microsoft/Google productivity tools.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
