The Maintenance Mechanic position is a role in our newly built, clean and modern manufacturing facility. The Maintenance Mechanic is a valuable member of our growing team and plays a critical role in the manufacturing of our many products. Ideal candidates must be safety focused while consistently producing the highest quality products for our customers. The duties and responsibilities of the Maintenance Mechanic position can vary depending on the business needs but generally include the following:
Position Summary:
The Maintenance Mechanic position performs preventative and routine maintenance on all plant equipment excluding office and computer equipment. The position requires considerable knowledge of hands-on machine and building maintenance.
We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to join our team. As a Maintenance Mechanic, you will be responsible for ensuring that the facility's equipment and machinery are operating safely and efficiently. You will be a crucial part of our maintenance team, working closely with other technicians and managers to maintain and repair our production equipment to minimize downtime and ensure that production runs smoothly.
Essential Functions:

- Follow all tasks and perform work procedures using Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP to ensure food safety.
- Responsible for working in a safe and healthy manner, and to take reasonable care of the health and safety of all other staff.
- Use necessary tools and knowledge to keep plant and equipment running efficiently.
- Perform preventative maintenance according to manufacturer’s specifications.
- Use necessary tools and knowledge to keep plant and equipment running.
- Maintain, track and document schedule of preventive maintenance on all production equipment, building-support equipment, handling equipment and safety equipment.
- Respond promptly to repairs (including machine breakdowns) and quickly determine if outside expertise is required.
- Perform all work and tasks in accordance with policies, procedures, rules, and training.
- Responsible for upkeep of machine manuals and specification literature provided by equipment vendors and warranty tracking.
- Inventory levels on spare parts must be maintained, tagged, and organized.
- Keep the work area and shop tidy and perform routine cleanups daily.
- Must know which critical operations to shut down in an emergency.
- NOT to perform work requiring licensing unless a holder of such license.
- Ensure service and audit paperwork and documentation is neat, accurate and legible.
- Assist with scheduling/arranging service with outside companies/equipment manufacturer regarding PM for equipment when necessary.
- Understand timing of what is needed for Preventative Maintenance on equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.
Physical Requirements:
- Normally standing / walking with freedom of movement on a regular basis.
- Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (10 hours or more).
- Frequently lifting / moving up to 50 pounds according to EH&S safety guidelines.
- Frequent physical activity requires walking, climbing, bending, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting and stooping.
Work Environment:
- Must be able to work in a refrigerated (50 degrees) or freezer food manufacturing environment.

- Must always wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the food manufacturing areas as well as any required PPE for specific task being performed.
Work Conditions:
- The work schedule is Monday through Friday and start times may begin as early as 5:00am and finish times as late as 6:00pm (or until finish). At times, it may be required that work be outside of the normal work schedule, including weekends.
- Extended work hours may be required (evenings / weekends) until work is complete.
- Physical surroundings are in an indoor warehouse / manufacturing environment.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required: nonskid safety shoes/boots, safety goggles, welding face mask/guard, work gloves, rubber gloves, back brace support and any other as determined by EH&S.
Required Training:
- The Maintenance Mechanic position requires training in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as well as on how to identify food safety issues such as temperature control, cross-contamination, sanitation, and cleanliness of the lines, etc., critical to the effective implementation of the Food Safety Plan and the maintenance of food safety, quality, and process efficiency.
- All required EH&S training must be completed satisfactorily.

Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required. Additional Technical / Trade school desired.
- 3+ years of equipment and building maintenance is required which includes sufficient mechanical skills to disassemble equipment, perform repair work and reassemble equipment.
- Boiler operator license preferred or be capable of obtaining a license.
- Must be meticulous in the following of written instructions and monitoring work efforts.
- Must be highly conscious of food processing sanitation issues.
- Must be capable of understanding equipment diagrams and technical specification manuals.
- Requires good judgment in dealing with problems and developing solutions.
- Must have good interpersonal communication skills to work with equipment, line operators, material handler, contractors, manufacturers and management.
- Must be highly safety conscious with respect to equipment and lock-out tag-out procedures.
- Automation experience – able to troubleshoot equipment with PLC’s and/or microprocessors. Someone who can connect to a PLC or microprocessor, look through ladder logic, screens, menus, etc. and determine what is preventing the equipment from running.
- Packaging experience – experienced in work on packaging machines and conveyors.
- Robotics, Electro-mechanical and Electro-pneumatic experience.
- Someone who has experience with Preventative Maintenance (PM) programs and can assist with the setting up of PM programs for all equipment.
- Computer literacy – MS Office (Word, Excel) and web browser experience. Many of the parts needed are found online in addition to product manuals, troubleshooting and training videos etc.
