Reports To: Executive Director / CEO
Supervises: ~12 Therapists
The Clinical Director provides leadership, oversight, and direction for all clinical services within the mental health and behavioral health program. This role is responsible for supervising a team of approximately 12 therapists, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based care, and maintaining full compliance with South Carolina regulatory and licensing standards.
This role requires an actively licensed clinician in South Carolina who is also an approved Clinical Supervisor authorized to provide supervision to associate-level clinicians.
Provide direct clinical supervision and oversight to all therapists, including associate-level clinicians
Review and approve treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries
Ensure implementation of evidence-based practices and quality care standards
Manage high-risk and complex clinical cases
Oversee clinical outcomes and patient safety initiatives
Provide required supervision in accordance with South Carolina licensing board regulations
Maintain proper documentation of supervision hours and activities
Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and development
Lead clinical trainings and staff development initiatives
Participate in hiring, onboarding, and retention of clinical staff
Oversee daily clinical operations and program performance
Ensure compliance with all state, federal, and payer requirements
Support program development, expansion, and strategic initiatives
Monitor census, productivity, and clinical KPIs
Ensure compliance with all South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) and licensing board regulations
Maintain audit readiness for accrediting bodies (e.g., Joint Commission, CARF)
Implement and monitor quality improvement initiatives
Ensure adherence to documentation and billing standards
Serve as a clinical liaison with referral partners and community providers
Collaborate with executive leadership on organizational goals
Participate in case conferences and interdisciplinary meetings
Must hold an active, unrestricted South Carolina license in one of the following:
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
Licensed Independent Social Worker – Clinical Practice (LISW-CP)
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT)
Licensed Psychologist
Candidate must be an approved Clinical Supervisor in South Carolina, including one of the following designations:
LPCS (Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor)
LISW-CP Supervisor (Board-approved)
LMFT Supervisor (Board-approved)
Licensed Psychologist qualified to provide supervision per state regulations
Candidates without an active, approved supervisor credential will not be considered.
5+ years of clinical experience in mental health/behavioral health
Minimum 2+ years providing clinical supervision
Experience managing or leading clinical teams
Experience in outpatient, PHP, IOP, or residential settings preferred
Strong knowledge of DSM-5 and evidence-based treatment modalities
In-depth understanding of South Carolina licensure and supervision regulations
Proven leadership and team management skills
Strong documentation, compliance, and audit experience
Excellent communication and decision-making abilities
Ability to pass background check and drug screening
CPR/First Aid certification (preferred)
Experience with EMR/EHR systems
Knowledge of insurance and Medicaid billing practices
