Job Summary: The School Staff Nurse (RN) position is designed to provide direct medical care to the students at Cotting in a pediatric school setting. This person will have the experience and ability to promote the smooth and effective operation of the department on a day-to-day basis. At Cotting School you will work in a caring and collaborative environment.Reporting to the Health Services lead, you will collaborate with a team of nurses and other medical staff including administrative staff, faculty and staff, students, and parents.This position offers a unique experience to provide a variety of clinical skills not seen in a typical school setting.Duties/Responsibilities: Work within the nursing scope of practice and deliver competent, evidence-based nursing care. Provides all necessary clinical treatment as ordered/indicatedEstablish priorities of care effectivelyWork collaboratively with parents and healthcare providers to develop individualized healthcare plans for studentsAppropriately responds to emergenciesAdminister medication safely and accuratelyEducate school personnel regarding health-related issues involving studentsMonitor the health status of studentsMaintain logs and recordsDocument student encounters thoroughly and accuratelyProvide personal care for students along with other members of the departmentEstablish a therapeutic relationship with patients (students) and families.
Works collegially with faculty, staff, and administrators.Provides after-school, evening, and overnight trip nursing coverage as scheduled and shared among the departmentAny other duties relating to health programs at the School may be assigned.Hours of Work: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 pm, and 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday during the school year and Monday-Friday 8:00-2:15 during the Extended School Year (ESY). This is a 209-day position which includes the 5-week summer term.
