About Us:
As a small business defense contractor, Action Manufacturing Company was established in 1946 to service DOD requirements for ordnance products. Our organization was originally founded within close proximity to Frankford Arsenal, Philadelphia, Pa. Over the years Action has developed a very successful record as a supplier of high-volume mechanical, electro-mechanical and pyrotechnic fuzes to both U.S. Armed Services as well as friendly foreign governments as approved by the U.S. State Department. Action currently employs approximately 300 employees and utilizes two production facilities: one in Bristol, PA and one in Atglen, PA. Action is currently in the process of opening a third location in Maryland which will house research, development and prototyping capabilities. Action is truly vertically integrated and is currently only one of two fuze manufacturers in the United States capable of producing energetic components, proximity sensing solutions, safety critical components, fuze assemblies and LAP (Load & Pack) with full environmental compliance testing capabilities IAW MIL-STD-331.
Job Summary:
- Develops and prepares Quality Plans, sampling, and inspection procedures for manufacturing processes, including First Article submissions, Validation documentation, MSA and any other product specific requirements as defined.
Additional Responsibilities:
- May conduct supplier and/or site audits as required.
- Carries out other general responsibilities as required by site management.
- Ensures maintenance and improvement of the Quality System through routine system audits and corrective actions.
- Ensures that all employees understand and follow policies and procedures with regard to the Quality Management System and or company as they apply.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Background in Quality Engineering, Metrology, and GD&T.
- Knowledge of AS9100 or equivalent standards
- Knowledge of automated inspection equipment including Vision Systems with basic programming skills (desired).
- Ability to handle multiple tasks with various levels of priority. Must be able to coordinate the requirements of daily production, Engineering, and Purchasing with inspection services to achieve timely response to needs.
- Above average organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to present ideas, results, and requirements effectively throughout the organization on a timely basis.
- Strong skills in applied statistics, reliability, Design of Experiments, MSA (gage R&R) and project management.
- Must have computer skills capable of utilizing various software packages commonly used in project management, databases, SPC, word processing and data acquisition.
Desired Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Quality Engineering
- Experience with IPC J-STD-001 Class 3 Solderability Requirements
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer
- Working knowledge/experience with AS9100 and/or IATF-16949

- Participate in product design reviews with primary responsibility for print review with an emphasis on tolerances, GD&T and capability. Recommends appropriate sampling and inspection techniques.
- Works with inspection resources to develop appropriate inspection techniques and gaging to ensure accurate and repeatable results.
- Conducts process capability studies, design of experiments, gage R&R and other process, product, or equipment related studies.
- Participates in internal and external non-conformance analysis and resolution, including communication to internal and external contacts as required.
- Preparation of AS9102 submissions. Coordinates annual layouts, MSA (gage R&R), CPK studies, DOEs, reliability studies and other special analysis as needed.
- Develops and analyzes statistical data and product specifications to determine conformance to customer specifications.
- Identifies new techniques, and technologies to be used in process control, inspection, and calibration to improve quality, reduce inspection time and measurement error, and increase product throughput.
- Participates in customer visits and acts as the company quality representative during failure analysis and corrective action activities.
