Direct Support Professional – Habilitation
Program: Community Habilitation / In-Home and Community Supports
Summary of Position
The Direct Support Professional will work one-on-one with individuals diagnosed with autism, intellectual disabilities, and developmental disabilities. The DSP will support individuals as they learn and practice skills they have chosen to work on, explore personal interests, gain new experiences, increase independence, and build meaningful relationships with members of their community.
Direct Support Professionals are essential workers and are expected to perform duties that are critical to daily operations and participant support.
Primary Responsibilities
The Direct Support Professional will:
- Provide one-on-one support to individuals receiving services in the home and community.
- Assist individuals with learning, practicing, and maintaining daily living, budgeting, social, communication, safety, and community participation skills.
- Support individuals in exploring interests, participating in preferred activities, and accessing community resources.
- Promote independence, choice, dignity, respect, and community inclusion.
- Transport individuals receiving services in a company vehicle or approved vehicle, as assigned.
- Assist individuals with safely transferring in and out of the vehicle as needed.
- Travel throughout the participant’s community to support service goals and planned activities.
- Follow the participant’s Individual Support Plan, service goals, and agency policies and procedures.
- Complete required documentation accurately and on time.
- Communicate professionally with participants, families, supervisors, and team members.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all applicable program requirements.
- Complete required training, orientation, and ongoing professional development.
Qualified Applicants Must Have:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Clean driving record.
- Ability to successfully complete all required background checks.
- Ability to safely transport participants as required.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to follow instructions, complete documentation, and manage time effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with individuals with autism, intellectual disabilities, or developmental disabilities.
- Strong commitment to community inclusion for individuals with disabilities.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- NADD DSP Certification preferred but not required.
Work Expectations
This position may require travel throughout the participant’s community, use of a company vehicle, assistance with transportation, and support during community-based activities. Staff must be dependable, professional, and committed to supporting individuals in achieving greater independence and meaningful community participation.

Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
