Duties
- Answer multi-line phone systems promptly with professional phone etiquette, directing calls accurately and efficiently
- Verify insurance coverage, perform insurance verification, and assist with billing inquiries using systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks
- Schedule patient appointments and coordinate care plans while maintaining up-to-date medical records in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
- Assist patients with intake procedures, ensuring proper documentation review and data entry into EMR systems
- Manage patient inquiries related to medical billing, CPT coding, ICD-10/ICD-9/ICD coding, and Medicare requirements with clarity and transparency
- Maintain organized medical records, files, and documentation review processes adhering to HIPAA regulations for health information management
- Support front desk operations by handling clerical tasks such as filing, data entry (including 10 key typing), and managing multi-line phone systems
- Collaborate with clinical staff to verify insurance benefits, process payments, and facilitate smooth office management activities
- Utilize computer skills in Microsoft Office applications to prepare reports and update patient information efficiently
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a medical office setting or healthcare environment with clinic or dental experience preferred
- Bilingual fluency in English and another language (e.g., Spanish) required; excellent communication skills in both languages essential
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), CPT coding, and health information management practices
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix or Eaglesoft is highly desirable
- Demonstrated ability to handle medical billing, insurance verification, and documentation review accurately
- Exceptional customer service skills with professional phone etiquette and active listening abilities
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; experience with multi-line phone systems preferred
- Attention to detail in clerical tasks such as filing, data entry, and maintaining accurate records
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities with enthusiasm
