The Role
As a Veterinary Assistant, you are the backbone of our daily workflow. You will ensure quality, compassionate care for our patients while promoting clinic efficiency by assisting our technicians and veterinarians with clinical and administrative tasks.
Primary Responsibilities
Patient Care & Support
- Provide compassionate care, keeping patients clean, dry, comfortable, and exercised.
- Provide safe, efficient, and compassionate animal restraint during exams and procedures (including the proper handling of fearful or fractious animals).
- Assist with technician appointments, patient transport, and proper kenneling.
- Dispense and administer medications, vaccines, and fluids as prescribed by veterinarians; accurately document all medical and controlled drug records.
Client Communication & Education
- Obtain and record detailed patient histories and discuss the reason for visits with clients.
- Educate clients on preventative healthcare (vaccines, flea/tick/heartworm preventatives) and promote clinic services like dental cleanings and senior wellness.
- Communicate clearly regarding product purchases, dietary products, and prescribed medications.
Hospital & Equipment Maintenance
- Maintain, clean, and sterilize surgical instruments, equipment, and medical materials.
- Keep exam rooms, treatment areas, kennels, and wards clean, sanitized, and fully stocked.
- Assist with inventory management of pharmaceuticals, equipment, and supplies.
- Recognize potential contagious disease risks and strictly follow isolation and safety protocols.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (Required).
- Experience: Prior veterinary environment experience is a plus, but a strong desire to learn and a team-first mindset are what matter most.
