Key Details:
- Position Title: Data Center / Central Office Fiber Technician
- Travel: Nationwide travel required | Assignments may last 4–6 weeks at a time
- Pay Rate: $28.00 to $32.00 per hour, depending on experience
- Employment Type: Full-Time | W2 | Long-Term Contract
- Schedule: Monday through Friday | Occasional weekends & overnight maintenance windows
Key Overview:
Broadstaff is seeking experienced Fiber Technicians to support a nationwide telecommunications network modernization project.
This position will focus on fiber migration, testing, troubleshooting, circuit tracing, and documentation within active central offices, data centers, and other telecommunications facilities.
The ideal candidate has strong hands-on fiber experience, can interpret OTDR test results, and is comfortable working independently while traveling extensively throughout the United States.
Key Qualifications:
- 3 or more years of fiber optic telecommunications experience
- Central office, data center, carrier, or similar network facility experience
- Hands-on experience installing, routing, tracing, labeling, and troubleshooting fiber optic cabling
- Proficiency using OTDRs, optical power meters, and fiber scopes
- Ability to interpret OTDR traces and identify bends, breaks, high-loss events, and other fiber impairments
- Ability to read fiber diagrams, network drawings, and circuit documentation
- Strong understanding of fiber handling, cleanliness, cable management, and testing practices
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout the United States
- Flexibility to work occasional overnight maintenance windows, overtime, or weekends
Preferred Experience:
- Fiber migration, customer cutover, circuit grooming, or network consolidation projects
- Experience working within a major telecommunications carrier network
- EXFO OTDR equipment
- DWDM, SONET, Ethernet, or optical transport networks
- Telecommunications equipment decommissioning or asset recovery
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, route, trace, label, and document fiber optic cabling
- Perform fiber testing using OTDRs, power meters, and fiber scopes
- Interpret test results and troubleshoot fiber connectivity issues
- Support network migrations, circuit moves, and customer cutovers
- Verify circuit connectivity before and after migration activities
- Read and follow fiber routing diagrams and circuit documentation
- Maintain accurate testing records and daily project updates
- Coordinate with project managers, technical leads, and network teams
- Work safely around active telecommunications equipment and circuits
Travel & Physical Requirements:
- Travel throughout the United States for extended project assignments
- Work may include occasional overnight maintenance windows
- Qualifying lodging, meals, transportation, and other travel expenses are provided or reimbursed according to company policy
- Lift and carry equipment or materials weighing up to 50 pounds
- Climb ladders and work within overhead raceways
- Bend, kneel, crouch, and work beneath raised floors
- Stand or walk for extended periods
