SUMMER CERTIFIED TEACHER
The Summer Certified Teacher provides classroom instruction in various core academic subject areas (math, reading, science, etc.) for students participating in the SEI Summer Programs. Teachers will develop daily lesson plans, class instruction and supervision of students in the elementary, middle, or high school summer program.
This position requires advanced knowledge of and experience working with the African American community. This would be demonstrated by knowledge of the traditions, values, and customs of the community being served as well as the ability to identify specific examples of experience (professional and lived) working directly with individuals and families who identify with the African American community.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and maintain positive relationships with participating youth.

Prepare daily lesson plans, instructional materials and performance goals for the class assigned that are developmentally appropriate.

Provides instruction to include individual skill development and expansion of knowledge.

Provides instruction, organization and management in the classroom which creates a respectful environment conducive to learning.

Responsible for creating and maintaining a healthy and safe environment within the classroom and program.

Adheres to SEI Standards and implements SEI behavior, discipline, and safety policies.

Consult with the Program Manager, in a timely fashion, to address the needs of students who are struggling.

Builds and maintains positive working relationships with SEI staff, students, and their families.

Administer Pre/Post testing assessments as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Must have Oregon state certification and maintain a valid teaching license and endorsed in required subject area.

Must have proven knowledge and skills in the related subject area you are teaching.
- Experience working with youth in a social service, recreation or educational environment is preferred.
- Ability to be a positive role model and demonstrate enthusiasm for working with youth of various cultural, social, educational, and economic levels.

Ability to garner students’ interest and accountability regarding classroom participation and expectation.

Must be self-motivated, creative, dependable, have excellent classroom management and interpersonal communication skills.

Bilingual candidates and cross-cultural knowledge highly preferred.
