Duties
- Assist orthodontists during procedures such as bracket placement, wire adjustments, and appliance installations with precision and efficiency.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up necessary materials, and ensuring all equipment is functioning correctly.
- Take and develop dental X-rays, including 3D scans, while maintaining strict adherence to infection control protocols and aseptic techniques.
- Manage patient records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Dentrix or Epic, ensuring accurate documentation of treatment plans, vital signs, and medical histories.
- Educate patients on orthodontic care instructions, including appliance maintenance and oral hygiene practices tailored for pediatric dentistry.
- Coordinate with the dental reception team to schedule appointments, confirm patient information, and handle administrative duties efficiently.
- Maintain a clean and organized clinic environment, adhering to HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy and confidentiality.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant with a focus on orthodontics or general dentistry; previous experience in pediatric dentistry is a plus.
- Proficiency in dental terminology, medical terminology, and dental assisting techniques such as chairside assisting and infection control practices.
- Familiarity with EMR systems including Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Epic, or similar platforms for managing medical records and documentation.
- Ability to operate dental imaging equipment such as X-ray machines and 3D scanners accurately.
- Knowledge of anatomy relevant to dental procedures and understanding of infection prevention protocols.
- Certification in X-ray technology for dental radiography; CPR certification preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in medical coding, record keeping, and appointment scheduling.
