TITLE: On-Call Painter Posting 2026/2027
SALARY: $39.45 Per Hour

BASIC FUNCTIONS: Under general supervision of a Maintenance Manager, performs skilled painting work in the maintenance of buildings and equipment; prepares various types of surfaces for the application of paint; and performs related work as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Scrapes, sands, fills, pours in a related manner and prepares surfaces for painting or repainting.
2. Does staining and varnishing of wood surfaces.
3. Erects scaffolding for either interior or exterior painting work.
4. Tints paint to match existing surfaces in color and sheen.
5. Uses brush, roller, or spray gun in applying paint, varnish, shellac, enamel, lacquer, or other protective or decorative finishes to various surfaces such as wood, metal, glass, plaster, stucco, wallboard, brick and cement.
6. Cares for painting equipment such as sprayers, tools, brushes, rollers, and ladders.
7. Keeps time and material records.
8. Provides training and instructs helpers as needed.
9. Installs commercial grade wall vinyl to interior surfaces
10. Prepares new drywall for painting, such as taping, topping, and skimming.
11. Performs various types of wall textures by hand or machine, including skip trowel, knock-down, fog, and stipple.
12. Performs other directly related job duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Knowledge of current laws standard practices, materials, and processes of the painting trade.
2. Knowledge of methods of preparing various surfaces for painting and re-painting.
3. Knowledge of methods and practices of cleaning and maintaining painting equipment and supplies.
4. Knowledge of safe work practices.
5. Knowledge of local vehicle codes as they relate to parking lots, road markings, and curb colors.
6. Knowledge and experience in the use of sand blasting equipment and the substrate they are used for.
7. Ability to perform skilled painting work.
8. Ability to estimate the proper paint requirements for all types of surfaces.
9. Ability to erect and work from riggings and scaffoldings.
10. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
11. Experience in the use and maintaining of airless, and line sprayers.
12. One (1) year of experience as a journeyman painter, and/or schooling.
13. Education is equivalent to completion of the eighth grade.
14. Ability to pass District Class IV physical examination and maintain physical standards to carry out job requirements.
15. Possession and maintenance of a valid California Driver License.
