GENERAL DESCRIPTION: From written or verbal instructions; installs, operates, and maintains all packaging machines and related equipment. Provides limited supervision over packaging line operators. Must be able to cut and weld from various materials. Must be capable of fabrication with various materials from blueprints and sketches.
MANUAL: Must be physically able to perform all related jobs in work area in order to operate, train, or relieve operators as necessary.
JOB DUTIES:
1. Install, operate, and repair machinery. Use hand and power tools and weld with various methods and materials.
2. Read and work from sketches, prints, operating instructions, etc., and determine proper operating and repair procedures.
3. Have full working knowledge of all packaging related machinery.
4. Set up, check, time, adjust, and trouble shoot on a daily basis.
5. Responsible for line if operating, or operators' lines if floating mechanic, to see to it that production lines are running at full capacity for the product and package being produced.
6. May be required to supervise.
7. May be required to drive lift truck.
8. Must have own tools.
9. Must be able to work any shift.
10. Work cooperatively with and all fellow employees.
11. Must be able to fluently read and write in English
12. Practice good housekeeping.
13. Report all safety hazards to the supervisor.
14. Must obey all safety, health, sanitation and plant rules and procedures.
15. Perform other duties as directed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Strength – Lift 70 lbs. Maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 55 lbs.
2. Stand/ Walk / Sit – Stand, walk, and or sit a maximum of 3 hours prior to each break period.
3. Climb / Balance – Ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and the like using feet and legs and or hand and arms. Maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow or slippery surfaces.
4. Stoop -- Bend the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist.
5. Kneel – Bend the legs at the knees to come to rest on the knee or knees.
6. Crouch – Bend the body downward and forward by bending the legs and spine.
7. Crawl – Move about on the hands and knees or hands and feet.
8. Reach – Extend both hands and arms in any direction.
9. Handle – Seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with the hand or hands.
10. See – Obtain impressions through the eyes of the shape, size, distance, motion, color, or other characteristics of objects.
11. Twist/Turn – Able to turn/twist trunk of body from side to side.
12. Talk – Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in packaging or a related field is preferred but not required
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good communication skills
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team
