Long-Term Substitute First Grade Teacher (8.20.26—10.16.26)
St. Mary School, Simsbury, CT, a Catholic school committed to academic excellence and faith formation, is seeking a Long-Term First Grade Teacher for an 8-week assignment. The teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging first grade instruction aligned with Archdiocese of Hartford curriculum standards, fostering a respectful and faith-centered classroom environment, and supporting the academic and personal growth of first graders. The ideal candidate will create a positive and engaging classroom environment, inspire curiosity and academic growth, and help students develop strong character rooted in Gospel values.
Additionally, the candidate will be responsible to:
Teach First Grade core academic subjects, including Religion, English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
Develop and implement engaging, differentiated lesson plans that meet the needs of diverse learners.
Integrate Catholic teachings, values, and traditions throughout classroom instruction and daily interactions.
Foster a classroom environment that encourages curiosity, collaboration, critical thinking, and a growth mindset.
Utilize best instructional practices and data-informed decision making to support student achievement.
Assess student learning through a variety of formative and summative methods and provide timely, meaningful feedback.
Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with families regarding academic and behavioral growth.
Prepare students for participation in school liturgies, prayer services, service projects, and other faith-based activities.
Collaborate with colleagues, administration, and support staff to ensure student success.
Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events.
Support and uphold the mission, vision, and values of St. Mary’s School and the Archdiocese of Hartford.
Bachelor’s degree required; teaching certification preferred.
Experience teaching elementary grades preferred.
Commitment to faith-based education and positive student development.
A practicing Catholic in good standing with his / her parish.
