North Florida Surgery Center is a multi-specialty Ambulatory Surgical Center founded in 1993. We service pediatric and adult patients in an outpatient setting.
Job Summary:
The Perioperative Nurse is responsible for intaking patients before scheduled procedure. The Perioperative Nurse is the first impression of services to be rendered in the Center and on behalf of the surgeon. Additionally, the Perioperative Nurse:
- Performs nursing assessment, patient medical history.
- Responsible for completeness of surgery charts, i.e. Labs, EKG data is on chart, H&P and consents are signed.
- Performs point-of-care testing as indicated (i.e. pregnancy, glucose)
- Reviews and follows orders as indicated.
- Initiates IV as ordered and demonstrates skill competency.
- Assists Anesthesia, as needed, with nerve blocks prior to surgery.
- Performs education activities as per facility policy and procedure and as ordered by the surgeon and documents the explanation of pre-op instructions to patient and significant other.
- Intakes for multi-specialty patients (Ophthalmology, Pain, Ortho Spine, Neuro, podiatry) and for ages one (1) year and up.
- The periopertive/PACU nurse receives the anesthesized patient from the operating room
- The periopertive/PACU nurse must be able to recognize and manage airway patency.
- Must have Tuesday and Wednesday PRN availability
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing for registered nurse
- Ability to relate positively and effectively with patients
- Good communication skills are essential
- Knowledge of approved procedures to be performed
- BLS/ACLS/PALS within 3 months of hire date
Physical/Mental Demands:
High levels of visual and auditory acuity are essential to perform patient care assessment activities and to respond in a time-sensitive manner. Mental demands require immediate judgment and immediate response occasionally in response to disasters or emergencies, actual or drills. Job activities require high-level verbal and written communication. All patient care related job activities require intermediate and routine judgment.
Physical activities require standing for protracted periods of time and the ability to walk and move quickly in response to patient and physician needs. Body movement requirements are limited to occasional overhead and low reaching. Carrying, lifting, pulling and pushing activities are categorized as medium work involving force exerted up to 50 lbs. occasionally and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly.
Job activities involve Category I exposure to bloodborne pathogens and frequent exposure to chemical hazards and rare exposure to radiation hazards.
The hours of the Surgery Center are from 05:30am – until cases completed. Hours must be flexible to meet the needs of the center.
