About the Position
Edgecombe Furniture is seeking a detail-oriented Cost Estimator to join our team. The Cost Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate product cost estimates by analyzing Bills of Materials (BOMs), labor routings, manufacturing processes, and material costs for upholstered seating furniture.
The ideal candidate has experience in manufacturing, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate with Engineering, Product Development, Purchasing, Sales, and Production to ensure competitive pricing and profitable product development.
Essential Responsibilities
- Develop accurate cost estimates for new and existing furniture products.
- Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Calculate material costs, including wood, foam, fabric, hardware, packaging, and other purchased components.
- Estimate labor costs based on manufacturing routings and production standards.
- Review engineering drawings, product specifications, and customer requirements.
- Work closely with Purchasing to verify supplier pricing and material availability.
- Support Sales by preparing accurate pricing for customer quotations.
- Analyze manufacturing costs and recommend opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
- Maintain product costing databases and update costs as pricing changes occur.
- Assist with engineering changes and ensure BOM and cost information remain accurate.
- Prepare reports and cost analyses for management.
- Ensure estimates are completed accurately and within established deadlines.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Business, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred, or equivalent work experience.
- Two or more years of experience in manufacturing cost estimating, product costing, purchasing, or product development preferred.
- Experience creating and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and labor costing.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with ERP, MRP, or manufacturing software is preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in upholstered furniture manufacturing.
- Knowledge of manufacturing routings and production processes.
- Experience with engineering documentation and product development.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles.
