Job Overview
The Assistant Salon Manager plays a key leadership role in supporting the daily operations, culture, and continued growth of the salon. This person works closely with the Owners to ensure the team delivers an exceptional guest experience while meeting the salon’s standards for professionalism, performance, cleanliness, teamwork, and profitability.
The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, positive, solution-oriented, and comfortable leading by example. They should be able to support and motivate the team while also holding team members accountable to salon expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Support
- Support the Salon with day-to-day salon operations.
- Help create a positive, professional, team-focused work environment.
- Lead by example in attitude, appearance, communication, punctuality, and guest service.
- Assist with onboarding and training new team members.
- Help communicate salon policies, procedures, promotions, goals, and expectations.
- Provide coaching and constructive feedback when needed.
- Help address minor team concerns and escalate larger issues to management.
- Encourage teamwork and help maintain a culture where everyone contributes to the success of the salon.
Guest Experience
- Ensure every guest receives a welcoming, professional, and elevated salon experience.
- Assist with guest concerns and service recovery when necessary.
- Help the team maintain strong communication with guests before, during, and after appointments.
- Support rebooking, client retention, referrals, reviews, and other guest-experience initiatives.
- Help maintain the salon’s standards for cleanliness, presentation, and hospitality.
Sales & Performance
- Help the team work toward salon goals for service revenue, retail sales, rebooking, retention, and productivity.
- Encourage appropriate product recommendations and educate the team on retail opportunities.
- Monitor key performance indicators and communicate opportunities for improvement to the Salon Manager.
- Help motivate the team during promotions, contests, events, and goal-setting periods.
- Lead by example in recommending services and products based on each guest’s needs.
Daily Salon Operations
- Assist with opening and closing procedures.
- Help oversee appointment flow and daily salon activity.
- Support front desk operations when needed.
- Assist with scheduling and coverage issues.
- Monitor salon cleanliness and organization throughout the day.
- Help ensure stations, common areas, back bar, retail displays, and guest areas meet salon standards.
- Assist with inventory counts, product organization, ordering needs, and identifying low-stock items.
- Help ensure salon policies and procedures are followed consistently.
Communication & Management Support
- Serve as a point of contact for the team when the Owners are unavailable.
- Communicate important issues to management promptly and professionally.
- Participate in leadership meetings and team meetings as requested.
- Help implement new systems, policies, promotions, education, and salon initiatives.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding employee, guest, financial, and business information.
- Bring potential problems to management with a solution-oriented mindset.
Qualifications
- Previous salon, beauty, hospitality, retail, or customer-service experience preferred.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience is a plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Comfortable providing direction and holding others accountable.
- Strong customer-service and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain professional and composed during busy or challenging situations.
- Understanding of salon services, retail products, and the beauty industry is preferred.
- Willingness to learn salon systems, policies, performance metrics, and leadership responsibilities.

Leadership Expectations
This position is more than a title. The Assistant Salon Manager is expected to be a leader, role model, and extension of salon management.
The person in this role should be willing to have respectful but sometimes difficult conversations, maintain appropriate professional boundaries, protect the salon’s standards and culture, and make decisions based on what is best for the team, our guests, and the business.
