SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the supervisor, the liaison is responsible for administrative and instructional support to the school by providing leadership and assistance to multicultural students in the areas of social, emotional growth and in academic subjects. The liaison provides leadership, supervision and monitoring assistance to both in- school and after-school programs, as delegated by the director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides for individual case management for each student.

Maintains contact with students.

Monitors student progress on a regular basis.

Provides necessary interventions as needed.

Provides parental support.
-
Maintains contact with parents.
-
Facilitates parental involvement across St. Louis Park Schools.

Empowers parents to be part of the school community.

Oversees and assists student long-term planning.

Assists secondary students with a four-year plan including the completion of steps towards post-secondary options

Helps students with contracts with two- and four-year schools

Encourages the development of a post high school mindset in students.

Creates and develops a resource center for support services and post-secondary options for students

Assists Elementary & Middle School students in creating goals for increased achievement.

Provides instructional support to staff in helping staff to better understand the needs of multicultural students.

Leads after school academic and social support programs for multicultural students.

Creates and maintains in-school support programs serving as a liaison for students across the District.

Works with consultants, mentors and other resources for individuals and groups of students.

Continually seeks community role models and speakers for students of color.

Performs other duties of a comparable level/type, as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge in student interventions and skill in designing individual student plans.

Knowledge of college requirements and resources for students of color.

Knowledge of community and school resources

Knowledge in academic subject areas in order to provide tutoring and academic support to students.

Specific knowledge of cultural components in order to provide support and advocacy for students

Communications including written and oral presentations.

Interacting with students, staff, parents and community.

Serving as a liaison between the community, District, staff and students with respect to cultural issues, problems or needs.

Developing and presenting training programs for staff and reserving as a resource to staff.

Counseling and working with students to develop goals, plans and learning objectives.

Use of technology to assist and aid students.

Incumbents assigned to this classification are administrative and supervisory in nature and thus the extent and degree of exposure to risks and hazards are more limited as compared to staff being directed. This classification is required to work in and around renovation sites, and may be exposed to air borne contaminants, irregular and unpredictable hours depending upon weather conditions, building needs, etc.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree: Teaching, Counseling, Communication, Community Relations

Minimum of 3 years previous cultural experience.
