Position Title: Tool Engineer
Department: Employee Type: Exempt
Reports to: Pay Grade: 7

Position Summary:
This position will oversee the day-to-day management of prototype and production tooling designs, including creation technical drawings and CNC code.
Scope/Supervision and Interaction:
Essential Functions:
§ Design of powder metal press tooling, gages, and machine adaption
§ Utilize CAD software to produce tooling prints/designs
§ Utilize CAM software to produce machine code used to manufacture tooling
§ Project management to rigorous schedules
§ Manufacturing process troubleshooting
§ Manage the design of prototype and production tooling
§ Participate in the APQP process to ensure tooling arrives on time and correct
§ Work with production to develop new tooling designs
§ Develop tooling standards using a lessons-learned approach to improve designs and reduce scrap
§ Perform all other incidental and related duties as required and assigned
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
§ B.S. Mechanical Engineering or B.S. Mechanical Engineering Technology preferred, but candidates with an Associate's degree and prior tool design experience will be considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
§ Knowledge of powder metal presses and process
§ Statistical process control knowledge
§ Strong geometric dimensioning and tolerancing [GD&T] skills
§ Time management; the ability to organize and manage multiple projects
§ Excellent computer proficiency including MS Office, CAD/3D modeling and CAM experience
Job related demands (i.e. physical, travel):
- Occasional travel for meetings or training (4-5 times per year)
- Flexibility to alter work schedule for timely completion of projects
- Prioritization of multiple projects to meet operational goals
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues with tact and diplomacy
- Maintenance of professional knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and/or participating in professional associations
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 35 lbs. without assistance and occasionally up to 50 lbs following company safe lifting protocol
- Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time
- Ability to work in an environment with powdered metal, dust, noise, oils and chemicals
