Your role with us:
The General Medical Unit or A6E, is one of four Medical Surgical Units that provide care to a highly diverse population with diagnoses of heart failure, sepsis, renal failure, respiratory failure, COVID and patients with multiple co-morbidities. Patients have multiple medical diagnoses offering a variety of healthcare experiences for nurses. Medical Surgical Nurses develop a well-rounded knowledge base and are able to care for a wide range of different patients. The wide range of diagnoses coupled with the Care in Place model makes for a highly satisfying specialty. Nurses have the experience of caring for patients holistically and interact with multiple disciplines to navigate their patients through the hospital stay. They strive to provide an exceptional experience every time to patients and their families.
What you'll do
- Perform comprehensive, age-appropriate assessments and communicate findings to the healthcare team.
- Develop individualized care plans considering medical, cultural, social, and developmental factors.
- Deliver nursing interventions in alignment with policies, patient needs, and care goals, including emergency response.
- Involve patients and families in care, promote self-care, and support education based on learning readiness.
- Accurately document all aspects of patient care, including assessments, interventions, education, and outcomes.
- Communicate clearly and effectively using SBAR, providing timely updates and coordinating with the team.
- Demonstrate leadership through evidence-based practice, mentoring, and effective charge nurse responsibilities.
- Support a safe care environment by following infection control practices and equipment safety protocols.
- Manage time and resources efficiently, including cross-training, floating, and maintaining supply levels.
- Actively engage in professional development and contribute to unit-based improvement initiatives.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (BSN) or non-nursing bachelor's degree with a Master of Science in nursing (MSN). Candidates with an associate's degree in nursing (ADN) and graduates of a diploma RN program are also encouraged to apply; ADN applicants with less than five years of acute care experience will be required to sign an agreement committing to complete their BSN or MSN degree within three years of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Current unencumbered licensure to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oregon.
- Less than one year of RN staff nurse experience.
