Artworks Fine Art Studio is is a growing community-based fine art school with locations across the DMV, including Bethesda, Potomac, and Falls Church. Our mission is rooted in teaching the fundamentals of fine art to students of all ages through high-quality instruction in drawing and painting. We offer year-round classes, summer camps, workshops, exhibitions, and special events within an environment that encourages creativity, artistic growth, and community connection.
We are seeking an organized, energetic, and community-minded Program Director to lead operations at our Bethesda studio location. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about arts education, enjoys working with students and families, and thrives in a fast-paced creative environment.
Position Summary
The Program Director oversees the daily operations of the studio while ensuring an exceptional experience for students, families, and staff. This position combines arts administration, educational programming, team leadership, and community engagement. The Program Director manages studio scheduling, enrollment coordination, staff supervision, and program logistics while helping cultivate a welcoming and creative studio culture.
This role also plays a key leadership position in organizing seasonal programming, including summer camps, workshops, exhibitions, and community events.
Key Responsibilities
Program and Studio Operations
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Bethesda studio
- Manage class schedules, studio logistics, and program coordination
- Ensure classrooms and studio spaces are organized, safe, and welcoming
- Coordinate seasonal programs including summer camps, workshops, and special events
- Support enrollment processes and maintain accurate student records
Staff Leadership and Training
- Recruit, train, supervise, and support instructors and seasonal staff
- Foster a collaborative, professional, and positive studio environment
- Manage staff scheduling and provide ongoing communication and operational support
- Assist with onboarding and implementation of the Artworks teaching method
Student and Family Engagement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for students and families
- Manage correspondence with parents, students, and staff in a professional and timely manner
- Build strong relationships with the studio community and maintain excellent customer service
- Address questions and resolve concerns with professionalism and care
Teaching and Educational Support
- Teach up to 2 adult classes
- Lead workshops, and camps as needed
- Support curriculum implementation focused on fine art fundamentals
- Help maintain a creative, engaging, and structured classroom environment
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain proficiency in student management and scheduling software
- Assist with enrollment tracking, reporting, and studio communications
- Coordinate supplies, materials, and operational needs
- Support marketing and community outreach initiatives as needed
Qualifications
- Experience working with children and groups of children required
- Background in fine art, arts education, museum education, or related field preferred
- Previous leadership, supervisory, or program management experience preferred
- Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills
- Dependable, proactive, and able to work independently
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, community-centered environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and administrative software preferred
- Ability to lift art supplies/materials and assist with classroom setup as needed
Schedule and Availability
Availability required for:
- Four weekdays from approximately 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Saturdays from 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
- Flexibility for seasonal programming, special events, and day camps required
- Seasonal hours for summer camps during June - August from 7:45 am - 3:45 pm required
