American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg unit, requiring EPIC experience and at least 2 years of medical-surgical nursing background.

Acute care Med/Surg unit within a hospital setting
-
32-bed unit currently operating with 20 beds due to staffing levels
-
Nurse-to-patient ratio of no more than 5:1, with both RNs and LPNs on staff
-
Patient population includes CP, CHF, pneumonia, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, ortho, detox, post-op surgical cases, and pediatric patients
-
Unit does not accept laboring mothers or patients on titrating cardiac or insulin drips
-
RNs are not required to titrate drips
-
ICU monitor techs read telemetry strips and fax results to the unit for documentation
-
Unit is supported by 3 nurse aides per shift
-
Respiratory therapy equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow, with RT support available at all hours
-
EPIC EMR experience required
-
12-hour night shifts, scheduled 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
-
Every other weekend required, with night shift falling on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

Holiday coverage rotates with regular staff
-
No call or standby requirements
-
Floating required, frequently assisting other units as a tasker or extra support
-
No specific scrub color required, though camo and orange are not permitted
-
Active RN license (Maryland or Compact) required
-
Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
-
Strong Med/Surg background required due to the variety of patient types on the unit

Current BLS (AHA) certification required
-
NIHSS certification required
-
ACLS and PALS certifications recommended but not required

EPIC EMR experience required
-
Unexpired copy of driver's license required for consideration

No first-time travelers considered for this position

Provide direct patient care to a diverse Med/Surg population including medical, surgical, and select pediatric cases

Document telemetry readings communicated by ICU monitor techs
-
Collaborate with respiratory therapy for CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow patient needs
-
Unit-specific orientation includes a tour, introductions, policy review, and 3-5 days of on-unit training alongside MediTech, pharmacy, and lab training
-
Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible, as local candidates are not accepted

Returning travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
-
Former permanent staff at this facility are not eligible to return as travelers
-
Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year without taking a required 2-year break
