Position Summary
North Fulton Metals is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Non-Ferrous Weightmaster / Scale Operator to join our recycling team. This position is responsible for accurately weighing and processing inbound and outbound non-ferrous materials, providing excellent customer service, maintaining accurate records, and supporting daily yard operations. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate the truck and platform scales to accurately weigh inbound and outbound vehicles and materials.
- Identify and classify non-ferrous metals, including aluminum, copper, brass, stainless steel, insulated wire, and other recyclable commodities.
- Enter accurate material codes, weights, pricing, and customer information into the computer system.
- Process customer purchases and sales transactions, including issuing payments and receipts.
- Prepare and maintain weight tickets, purchase tickets, shipping documents, and daily transaction records.
- Complete daily balancing and end-of-day reports.
- Verify driver identification, vehicle information, and load documentation as required.
- Direct customers and truck drivers to the appropriate unloading or loading areas.
- Communicate professionally with customers in person, by phone, and by email to answer questions and resolve issues.
- Work closely with the Yard Manager, Operations Manager, and warehouse personnel to ensure efficient yard operations.
- Maintain organized files and perform general administrative and clerical duties.
- Monitor office and scale house security by remaining alert for unauthorized individuals or suspicious activity.
- Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA regulations while promoting a safe work environment.
- Keep the scale house clean, organized, and professional.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in a recycling yard, truck scale operation, cashiering, logistics, or customer service is preferred but not required.
- Basic computer skills with the ability to learn recycling software.
- Strong mathematical and data entry skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Professional attitude with excellent customer service skills.
- Honest, dependable, and able to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to work a six-day work schedule.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk throughout the workday.
- Ability to work in an office located within an active industrial recycling yard.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Must be comfortable working around heavy equipment, trucks, and outdoor conditions.
