Design products people actually use. Lake Lite is a 25-person design and manufacturing company in Avilla, Indiana, and our product line covers the waterfront — literally. We build controls for every style of boat lift on the market: cable lifts, hydraulic lifts, air-displacement lifts, coastal lifts, and powered boat lift screens. We develop solar charging kits for boat lifts, advanced solar lighting for docks and residential applications, and a growing lineup of marine and waterfront equipment and accessories — all designed, engineered, prototyped, and produced under one roof.
This is not a boring one-product job. You’ll run multiple projects simultaneously in a rapid-development environment, taking products from napkin sketch through prototyping, validation, and onto the production floor — then seeing them running on lakes and coastlines across the country. We’re looking for a proven mechanical design engineer who has designed products people actually use; taking products to market is what you’ll do here, whether or not you’ve done it before. You’ll work directly with the owner, sales, and production — no layers of management, no waiting six months for a decision.
What you’ll own
- 3D design of new products in SolidWorks — parts, assemblies, drawings, design tables, and BOMs — engineered for manufacturing, testing, and real-world use
- Taking products from concept through prototyping (3D printing in-house), validation, and release to production
- Preparing designs for outside machining and production: technical drawings and specs our suppliers and production team can build from the first time
- Continuous improvement of existing products, revision control (ECN/ECR), and keeping documentation current
- Hands-on prototyping and fixturing — including time on our 5-axis CNC if you have (or want to build) CAM skills
What you must bring
- 5+ years designing physical products that people use — we’ll ask you to walk us through them; taking products all the way to market is a plus, and it’s what you’ll be doing here
- Advanced SolidWorks: complex parts and assemblies, drawings, design tables, BOMs
- A working knowledge of manufacturing processes — you design parts that can actually be made at a sane cost
- Self-direction: you can run multiple projects without someone assigning your next task
Nice to have (tell us if you’ve got it)
- CAM programming and 5-axis machining experience
- PLC, automation, or controls design exposure
- Experience writing assembly instructions, SOPs, or user documentation
A note on credentials: an engineering degree is welcome but not required. If you’re self-taught and have a portfolio of real products to prove it, we’d rather see the portfolio than the diploma.
