ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
Vera Court Neighborhood Center (VCNC) is a neighborhood center on the north side of Madison, and is part of Vera Court Neighborhood Center, Inc. Our mission is to journey with our neighbors—uplifting youth, supporting families, and creating spaces of belonging where communities grow stronger together. Our youth programs focus on academics, social emotional learning and belonging. We host elementary, middle and high school programs which run in the afterschool setting as well as 8-week long summer camps.
The Middle/High School Program Lead will work as part of a team to support the needs of youth participating in middle and high school programming, serving approximately 20–30 youth each day. The Program Lead will assist with planning and implementing engaging academic, enrichment, and recreational activities; supervise participants; and serve as a positive influence in the lives of youth. A successful Program Lead will build positive relationships with youth, families, and staff while helping maintain a safe, welcoming, and supportive program environment.
PROGRAMMING
- Serve as a positive role model and build meaningful relationships with youth
- Assist with the planning and coordination of the after-school program
- Plan and lead daily enrichment activities each week for a group of 8-10 youth
- Facilitate daily academic and homework time
- Provide active supervision and ensure safety of program participants at all times.
- Attend mandatory staff meetings and mandatory training
- Assist with opening and closing procedures each day including room set-up, clean up, and transitions
ADMINISTRATIVE
- Collaborate and cooperate with the SEL Program Manager, Middle & High School Program Coordinator and other program staff
- Participate in data collection and data tracking
- Assist in necessary reporting
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Passion for community support and relationship building
- At least 1 year experience working with school aged children, preferably in the after school setting
- Experience creating and implementing lesson plans for activities or willing to learn
- Ability work independently and collaboratively with a team
- Demonstrates cultural competence
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 21 years of age with a clean driving record, valid driver’s license and the ability to drive a 15-passenger van for field trips
- Strong communication skills
- Knowledge of and experience with: problem solving; behavior management; and conflict de-escalation/resolution.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish, both written and spoken
SALARY AND BENEFITS
This is a part time, year round position with an hourly rate ranging from $18.72/hr and 22 hours per week during the school year and up to 40 hours per week during summer training and summer camp. Benefits package includes paid holidays, paid vacation and sick leave, 403(b) retirement plan with up to 5% employer match, professional development stipend and more.
- School year hours are Monday-Friday 3:00 - 7:30 pm after school hours.
- Summer camp hours are 18-40 hours a week (this schedule is subject to change).
- Additional hours available for community events and days-off programming.
