Job Summary: Home Sweet Homes is seeking a motivated and skilled Carpenter / Laborer to join our dynamic team. This dual-role position requires an individual who is proficient in various carpentry tasks, possesses a strong work ethic, and is capable of performing general labor duties on construction sites. The ideal candidate will be reliable, safety-conscious, and eager to contribute to the successful completion of residential projects.
Responsibilities:
Carpentry Duties:
- Perform rough and finish carpentry tasks, including framing, trim work, cabinetry installation, door and window installation, and decking.
- Measure, cut, and shape wood, plastic, fiberglass, drywall, and other materials.
- Erect scaffolding and ladders as needed, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
- Perform some plumbing tasks such as installing sinks and toilets.
- Perform some electrical tasks such as installing new lights, light switches and outlets.
- Inspect and replace damaged framework or other structures and fixtures.
- Collaborate with other tradespeople and project managers to ensure timely and efficient project completion.
- Ensure all work meets quality standards and building codes.
Laborer Duties:
- Assist skilled tradespeople (carpenters, plumbers, electricians, etc.) as needed.
- Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment.
- Prepare construction sites by cleaning debris, trash, and hazardous materials.
- Dig trenches, backfill excavations, and compact earth.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively (e.g., drills, saws, grinders, hammers, shovels).
- Perform demolition work as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Assist with general site clean-up and organization at the end of each workday.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience as a carpenter and/or construction laborer (minimum 3 years experience preferred).
- Proficiency in using a variety of hand and power tools commonly used in carpentry and construction.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings.
- Strong understanding of construction safety practices and procedures.
- Physical stamina and strength to perform manual labor, lift heavy objects up to 80 lbs, and work in various weather conditions.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Reliable transportation to and from job sites.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver's license.
- Must be insurable on the company's insurance.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, climb, and reach for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift and carry heavy materials and equipment.
- Work may involve exposure to dust, noise, and outdoor weather conditions.
