Palm Beach County’s Facilities Development & Operations Department is seeking an experienced professional to lead its Built Environment Risk Reduction Division as its next Director.The Division’s mission is to empower County departments and community stakeholders to make informed, risk-reducing decisions that foster environmental stewardship through technical expertise and strategic guidance that promotes cost-effective weather hardening, resource conservation, and waste reduction in the built environment. Its vision is for the County's informed decision-making to minimize impacts of extreme weather and maximize the efficient use of natural resources.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESCoordinates initiatives involving multiple County departments and implements policies and directives of County Administration and the Board of County Commissioners in the following areas: Climate change adaptation and mitigation, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, energy and water conservation, natural resources conservation and restoration and related subjects.Assists municipal governments in extreme weather and environmental stewardship planning and implementation.Develops and recommends programs and policies related to climate change adaptation and mitigation, energy conservation and sustainability.Ensures that County buildings and infrastructure are built for durability and resource efficiency.Manages, supervises, and leads staff in implementing directives received from Department Administration, County Administration and the Board of County Commissioners.Serves on and/or provides staff support to the South Florida Regional Climate Change Compact.Supervises agenda items, grant agreements and grant applications.Makes public presentations and prepares written materials for public distribution.QUALIFICATIONSThis position requires qualified applicants to possess one of the following: Master’s Degree in Business/Public Administration, Engineering, Environmental Studies or related field; minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in built environment risk mitigation/resilience, including three (3) years of management or supervisory experience;ORBachelor’s Degree in Business/Public Administration, Engineering, Environmental Studies or related field; minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in built environment risk mitigation/resilience, including three (3) years of management or supervisory experience;ORUnrelated Bachelor’s Degree; minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience in built environment risk mitigation/resilience, including three (3) years of management or supervisory experience;ORAssociate’s Degree in Business/Public Administration, Engineering, Environmental Studies or related field; minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience in built environment risk mitigation/resilience, including three (3) years of management or supervisory experience;ORHigh school diploma or equivalent recognized certification; minimum of nine (9) years of professional experience in built environment risk mitigation/resilience, including three (3) years of management or supervisory experience.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSPreferred qualifications include experience in/with: Public sector employment or other professional employment working directly with federal, state, or local government agencies,Delivering public presentations,Public policy analysis/the legislative process,Grant writing and/or grants administration, andLeading projects related to extreme weather adaptation, natural resource conservation, or sustainability.
