Job Summary:
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Mississippi (http://socanth.olemiss.edu) invites applications for the position of Instructor of Sociology. This is a regular permanent position beginning in August 2026. We are seeking a sociologist who can help us cover face-to-face instructional needs in Introductory Sociology (Soc 101), Family (Soc 301), and other 300-400 level courses as well. The teaching load for the position is 4 courses per semester and has a starting 9-month salary of $45,000.
Candidates should have at least 2 years demonstrated teaching experience and a strong commitment to teaching. M.A. degree in Sociology or higher is required at the time of application. Performs the function of teaching with renewable contracts. Not eligible for tenure.
Job Description:
- Persons with the rank of instructor shall be hired for teaching duties but shall not be tenure track. The contracts will be renewable at the discretion of the University.
- Develop and offer face to face Sociology courses, 4 each semester, in particular Soc 101, Soc 301 and other 300 and 400 level courses as needed.
- Instructor of Sociology will develop and offer 4 sections of sociology each semester. Develop syllabi, teach classes, grade assignments and exams, maintain course records and participate in department.
