Job Summary
Join our growing eyecare team as an Optometric Technician/Receptionist, where you'll play a vital role in caring for our patients, their vision, and their eyes. This position requires a combination of skills in administrative responsibilities as well as clinical support, ensuring smooth operations and positive patient experiences from the time someone reaches out to schedule to after they leave from their visit. You will assist with ophthalmic examinations, operate medical and diagnostic equipment, and manage electronic health records (EHR) while maintaining strict confidentiality and accuracy. Your enthusiasm and attention to detail will help us provide advanced eye health services in the charming environment of our small town.
Duties and Expectations
- Greet patients warmly, verify insurance information, and efficiently manage appointment using Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR) systems to maintain patient flow through the office
- Perform intake procedures, including collecting patient history and updating medical records with accuracy
- Assist optometrist during eye examinations by operating diagnostic equipment like tonometer and imaging devices, as well as entrance testing in the exam room with visual acuity and ocular movement testing, using sterile practices for patient and staff safety
- Maintain clinical confidentiality policies by safeguarding patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Manage medical records meticulously, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality at all times
- Promote excellent patient service and passion for eyecare by addressing questions promptly and guiding patients through their visit experience
Experience (recommended)
- Previous experience in a medical office setting or eyecare practice is beneficial to provide familiarity with medical and ocular terminology
- Hands-on experience operating ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment like tonometers or imaging devices is advantageous but not required, as on-site training will also be provided
- Efficiency in learning electronic systems (scheduling, record keeping, etc.), especially with Google-based systems
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies to protect patient privacy
