Overview
We are seeking a professional, detail-oriented Student Collections Specialist to manage outstanding student account balances for graduates and former students. This position is responsible for contacting individuals with delinquent accounts, negotiating payment arrangements, maintaining accurate account records, and supporting collection efforts while delivering respectful, solution-focused customer service.
The ideal candidate has experience in collections and accounting, is a strong communicator who can balance empathy with accountability, effectively resolve account issues, and help individuals understand their repayment options.
Duties
- Manage a portfolio of delinquent accounts for graduates and former students.
- Contact account holders via phone, email, text, or written correspondence regarding outstanding balances.
- Negotiate payment plans and encourage timely account resolution.
- Document all collection activity within the student information system.
- Research and resolve account discrepancies in collaboration with internal departments.
- Monitor payment arrangements and follow up on missed or late payments.
- Maintain detailed documentation of all collection activities, correspondence, and account status updates in compliance with financial regulatory standards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, associates' or bachelor's degree in Accounting , Business, or related field preferred.
- Two or more years of collections, accounts receivable, financial services, or customer service experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong negotiation and conflict-resolution abilities.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Pay: $23.00 - $27.00 per hour
