Job Summary
The Tool Crib Attendant is responsible for maintaining the inventory, organization, distribution, and receiving of production tooling, gages, fixtures, maintenance supplies, and manufacturing consumables. This position supports Engineering, Production, Maintenance, and Purchasing by ensuring the right tools and supplies are available when needed, inventory records remain accurate, and all related documentation is properly processed and maintained. The Tool Crib Attendant also serves as a technical resource for tooling, supports setup readiness, coordinates tool maintenance, and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives.
Tool Crib Operations
· Issue cutting tools, inserts, holders, drills, taps, reamers, gages, fixtures, and shop consumables to production personnel.
· Receive, inspect, identify, and organize incoming tooling and production support supplies.
· Maintain an organized and efficient tool crib using 5S principles.
· Prepare tooling kits and setup packages based on production schedules and setup documentation.
· Maintain proper storage and identification of tooling and measuring equipment.
Tool Maintenance
· Inspect returned tooling for wear, damage, and serviceability.
· Sharpen or coordinate sharpening and repair of production tooling.
· Determine when tooling should be reconditioned, replaced, or removed from service.
· Maintain records of tooling life and replacement history where applicable.
Tooling & MRO Material Coordination
· Receive and inspect incoming tooling, gages, fixtures, maintenance supplies, and manufacturing consumables.
· Verify received quantities against purchase orders and packing slips.
· Ensure packing slips, purchase orders, certifications, and related paperwork are complete and accurate.
· Process tooling and MRO receipts in the ERP system as required.
· Coordinate with Purchasing, Engineering, Maintenance, and Accounting to resolve discrepancies.
· Organize and store received tooling and supplies in designated inventory locations.
Inventory Control
· Maintain accurate inventory records for tooling and consumables.
· Monitor inventory levels and initiate replenishment requests.
· Perform cycle counts and assist with annual physical inventories.
· Track tooling usage and identify opportunities to reduce tooling costs.
Engineering & Production Support
· Support Engineering with tooling required for new jobs and process improvements.
· Assist in tooling standardization and setup readiness.
· Support tooling trials and continuous improvement projects.
Quality & Safety
· Ensure proper handling and storage of calibrated gages and measuring equipment.
· Follow company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
· Maintain a clean and organized work area.
· Support company quality objectives and AS9100 requirements.
Required Skills and Abilities
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Good mechanical aptitude and tooling knowledge.
· Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and ERP systems.
· Ability to read tooling specifications and manufacturing documentation.
· Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Education and Experience
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Minimum two years of experience in a manufacturing, machining, tooling, or inventory environment.
· Experience supporting CNC machining or multi-spindle manufacturing preferred.
· ERP experience preferred.
· Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification preferred.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this position, the employee works primarily in a manufacturing environment with regular exposure to moving machinery, forklifts, cutting fluids, oils, airborne particles, and varying temperatures. The work environment is frequently loud due to production equipment.
Physical Requirements
· Frequently stand and walk throughout the workday.
· Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
· Regular bending, reaching, twisting, and kneeling.
· Ability to safely operate material handling equipment.
Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
