Job Summary
Mat-Su Dermatology is seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team to support our dermatologists and Mohs surgery practice in Palmer, Alaska. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in providing high-quality skin care for our patients along with supporting our administrative team within a clinical setting. This position requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, patient service, and the ability to work effectively in a clinic setting.

Responsibilities
- Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations and procedures
- Perform intake assessments, including taking vital signs and documenting medical histories
- Perform administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, patient follow up calls and maintaining medical records.
- Prepare medications as directed by physicians
- Specimen collection / handling
- Manage electronic health records (EHR) systems to ensure accurate patient documentation
- Taking photographs of skin conditions for before-and-after comparisons
- Help patients understand their treatment plans and any necessary follow-up appointments.
- Provide patient education on skincare, treatments, medications, special diets, or lifestyle changes prescribed by the Dermatologist.
- Applying dressings under the direction of a dermatologist.
- Sterilize medical instruments and ensure compliance with infection control procedures.
- Prepare patients for other diagnostic procedures
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment
- Ordering medical supplies and maintaining inventory.
- Ensuring cleanliness and sanitation of exam rooms following health and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with other offsite healthcare teams
- Coordinate patient appointments and follow-up visits
- Comply with all policies and standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills
- Proficient in medical office procedures and patient care practices.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with patients, explaining procedures, and providing post-treatment care instructions.
- Medical assisting skills, including taking medical histories, drawing blood, dressing wounds, and assisting in minor surgical procedures.
- Experience with ICD coding for accurate billing and documentation
- Familiarity with EHR systems for efficient patient management
- Detail-oriented with an ability to manage patient records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of information.
- Strong communication skills and customer service skills to provide a comfortable and supportive environment for patients, addressing their concerns, and ensuring a positive patient experience.
- Ability to work in high-pressure situations typical of a fast-paced clinic and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in clinic or office setting preferred.
- Understanding of minor medical-surgical procedures and protocols
- Knowledge of safety and sanitation protocols to maintain clean and safe treatment areas.
- Strong critical thinking abilities to analyze situations and develop appropriate solutions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Ability to work as a team member.
