Cutter Operator
The Mines Press, Inc is a growing and successful on-line marketing and print and mail facility currently in its 93rd year of operation. Located in northern Westchester County, NY our 110,000 square foot facility is filled with state of the art computing, printing and mailing equipment and an energetic staff capable of serving the needs of a diverse and growing customer base.
Overview
We’re looking for a skilled Cutter Operator to join our print production team. You’ll set up and run guillotine and programmatic cutting equipment to trim, cut, and finish printed materials to specification. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential—our customers count on clean, precise cuts every time. If you have hands-on experience in a print or bindery environment and take pride in quality work, we’d like to hear from you.
Duties
- Set up, program, and operate guillotine cutters and other cutting equipment to trim and cut printed sheets, covers, and other materials to specified dimensions.
- Read and interpret job tickets, press layouts, and rule outs to determine cutting sequences and requirements.
- Measure and verify cut sizes using rulers, calipers, and other measuring tools to ensure finished pieces meet job specifications.
- Handle paper stock, printed sheets, and finished materials safely, including lifting and moving skids as needed.
- Maintain cutting blades, guides, and machine components to ensure optimal performance; perform routine inspections, blade changes, and basic troubleshooting.
- Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of guards and personal protective equipment, and adherence to facility safety standards.
Skills
- Experience operating programmable guillotine cutters (Polar, Challenge, or similar) preferred but not required. Experienced Press , Bindery & Folder operators are encouraged to apply
- Mechanical aptitude with basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and quality assessments.
- Familiarity with print finishing quality standards and the ability to identify common cutting defects such as misalignment or rough edges.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 40 lbs, and work effectively in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining safety standards.
