About Roam Homegrown
Roam Homegrown is a growing manufacturing company specializing in premium private-label candles and custom-printed products for retail brands, corporate gifting programs, hospitality clients, and national accounts.
We operate a hands-on production facility where accuracy, organization, speed, and follow-through matter. Our business experiences significant seasonal growth, and our operations team must be able to plan ahead, adjust quickly, and consistently deliver high-quality products on time.
We are strengthening our operating systems and developing a team of capable department leads. We are looking for an Operations Manager who can help manage daily execution while learning the business directly from the owner.
Role Summary
The Operations Manager will help coordinate the day-to-day performance of our production facility.
This person will work closely with the owner and department leads to organize production, assign labor, monitor order progress, maintain quality standards, and ensure the facility stays clean, organized, and productive.
During the first three to six months, the Operations Manager will receive hands-on training in ROAM’s products, equipment, production methods, quality requirements, order systems, and seasonal workflow.
This is not initially a fully autonomous position. The owner will remain closely involved in production planning, operational priorities, and major decisions. As the Operations Manager demonstrates sound judgment, reliability, and command of the business, they will be given greater responsibility and decision-making authority.
The right person will be comfortable starting as a hands-on operational partner and growing into a more independent leadership role.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Daily Production Coordination
- Help build and execute daily and weekly production plans
- Translate priorities into clear assignments for production employees and team leads
- Monitor the progress of active orders throughout the day
- Identify delays, labor gaps, material shortages, or workflow problems
- Escalate significant issues to the owner promptly
- Adjust labor assignments as priorities change
- Ensure the following day’s production plan is prepared before the end of each shift
2. Team Supervision and Accountability
- Provide daily direction to production employees and department leads
- Set clear expectations for productivity, quality, attendance, and workplace conduct
- Follow up on assigned work and confirm completion
- Address routine performance issues promptly and professionally
- Support employee training and cross-training
- Help develop strong leads within production, print, fulfillment, and warehouse operations
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, coaching, and employee evaluations
3. Order and Workflow Management
- Track orders from production preparation through completion
- Coordinate the flow between candle production, printing, quality control, packing, and shipping
- Make sure teams have the information and materials needed to complete their work
- Help prevent orders from being overlooked, delayed, or completed incorrectly
- Communicate order status and operational concerns clearly to the owner and sales team
- Maintain accurate daily production and completion reporting
4. Quality Control
- Learn and enforce ROAM’s established product and quality standards
- Confirm teams are following approved formulas, specifications, and production instructions
- Conduct routine quality checks throughout production
- Identify defects or recurring quality problems
- Stop or escalate work when product quality may be at risk
- Document errors and help implement corrective actions
- Support a culture where quality is verified at every stage
5. Facility Organization and Readiness
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized production environment
- Ensure workstations are properly set up and reset
- Monitor warehouse organization and internal material flow
- Establish and enforce cleaning and maintenance schedules
- Confirm tools, equipment, and supplies are stored correctly
- Make sure production areas are ready for the next day’s work
- Identify facility or equipment issues before they disrupt production
6. Inventory and Materials Support
- Help monitor raw materials, packaging, finished goods, and production supplies
- Conduct or oversee regular inventory counts
- Report potential shortages before they affect an order
- Assist with receiving, organization, and accurate storage of materials
- Maintain inventory logs and reorder alerts
- Work with the owner to improve inventory accuracy and forecasting
7. SOPs and Process Improvement
- Learn and enforce existing standard operating procedures
- Help document processes in clear, employee-friendly formats
- Identify recurring inefficiencies, errors, and communication gaps
- Recommend practical improvements to layout, workflow, training, and documentation
- Test approved process changes and measure their results
- Help build systems that can be consistently followed by the entire team
8. Performance Tracking and Reporting
- Track daily output, order completion, quality issues, labor utilization, and delays
- Complete an end-of-day operations report
- Prepare the following day’s staffing and production plan
- Provide accurate updates on unfinished work and operational risks
- Use established performance metrics to identify areas needing improvement
- Help hold employees and department leads accountable to measurable expectations
Initial Authority and Decision-Making
During the training period, the Operations Manager will have authority to:
- Assign and reassign daily labor
- Direct routine production activity
- Enforce established procedures and quality requirements
- Address routine attendance, productivity, and conduct issues
- Escalate major quality, personnel, equipment, inventory, or scheduling problems
- Recommend changes to staffing, workflow, purchasing, and processes
Major strategic decisions, significant purchases, changes to product specifications, major staffing actions, and changes affecting customer commitments will remain subject to owner approval.
Authority will expand as the Operations Manager demonstrates consistency, judgment, and mastery of ROAM’s operations.
Training and Development Path
First 30 Days
- Learn ROAM’s products, departments, equipment, order flow, and quality standards
- Build working relationships with department leads and production employees
- Participate in daily production planning with the owner
- Begin managing daily assignments and follow-up
- Learn required reporting, inventory, and escalation procedures
Days 31–90
- Take increasing ownership of daily floor coordination
- Prepare production plans for owner review
- Manage daily labor assignments and workflow adjustments
- Lead routine team communication and accountability
- Help complete SOPs and improve production reporting
- Identify operational problems and recommend solutions
Months 3–6
- Independently manage most daily production execution
- Coordinate department leads with less owner intervention
- Demonstrate reliable planning, communication, and follow-through
- Anticipate labor, inventory, quality, and scheduling problems
- Earn expanded responsibility based on performance
- Prepare for potential advancement into a senior operations leadership role
Advancement is based on demonstrated performance and is not automatic or tied solely to time in the position.
Ideal Candidate
- Three or more years of experience in manufacturing, warehouse operations, production supervision, fulfillment, or a similar environment
- Previous experience directly supervising hourly employees
- Strong planning, organization, and follow-through
- Comfortable working on the production floor and learning hands-on processes
- Able to communicate clearly and professionally with employees and leadership
- Capable of holding people accountable without creating unnecessary conflict
- Detail-oriented and attentive to product quality
- Comfortable using spreadsheets, order systems, production reports, and basic performance metrics
- Able to prioritize effectively in a fast-changing environment
- Willing to learn established methods before making major changes
- Interested in growing into greater operational responsibility
Experience with candles is not required. Experience in small-batch manufacturing, printing, packaging, consumer products, fulfillment, or seasonal production is especially helpful.
What This Role Is Not
- This is not a corporate or desk-only management role
- This is not a position with immediate, unrestricted authority over the entire company
- This is not a role for someone who waits for others to identify problems
- This is not a consulting position focused only on recommending changes
The Operations Manager will be expected to spend substantial time on the production floor, follow through on details, and help the team complete the work correctly and on schedule.
What Success Looks Like
- Daily priorities are clearly communicated and consistently completed
- Production stays on schedule with fewer last-minute surprises
- Employees understand their assignments and performance expectations
- Quality problems are identified before products reach customers
- The facility remains clean, organized, and ready for production
- Inventory and supply risks are communicated in advance
- Department leads become stronger and more accountable
- End-of-day reporting is accurate and the following day is properly planned
- The Operations Manager steadily earns greater trust and independence
- Owner involvement in routine floor management decreases over time
Growth Opportunity
This position is designed for someone who wants to grow into senior operational leadership.
A successful Operations Manager may eventually assume broader responsibility for production planning, team performance, inventory control, process improvement, and overall facility operations. Future advancement and compensation growth will depend on the employee’s ability to independently deliver reliable operational results.
