Position Summary
The Publisher/Advertising Manager serves as the leader and public face of the Advance-Monticellonian and The Eagle Democrat, overseeing all aspects of the newspapers' business operations, advertising sales, community engagement, and print operations while working collaboratively with the editorial team to ensure the continued delivery of trusted local journalism.
This position is responsible for driving revenue growth, managing staff, overseeing production and printing operations, fostering relationships throughout the community, and ensuring the long-term success of both newspapers. The ideal candidate is a strong leader who believes in the vital role of local journalism and is passionate about serving the communities of southeast Arkansas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight for the daily operations of the Advance-Monticellonian, The Eagle Democrat, and the commercial printing operation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with elected officials, business leaders, nonprofit organizations, schools, civic groups, and community stakeholders.
- Represent the newspapers at community events, public meetings, chamber functions, and civic gatherings.
- Serve as the first point of contact for community members, advertisers, business owners, and civic leaders with questions, concerns, or ideas regarding the newspapers.
- Maintain a working understanding of the newspapers' financial performance, including revenue, expenses, budgets, and progress toward organizational goals.
- Identify opportunities for new community partnerships, initiatives, and coverage that strengthen both the newspapers and the communities they serve.
- Maintain and grow an active book of advertising clients while leading the advertising team to meet and exceed monthly sales goals.
- Develop innovative advertising solutions that help local businesses achieve their marketing objectives.
- Create new revenue opportunities across print, digital, special sections, events, sponsorships, and other products.
- Work closely with the editor to identify important stories and community issues.
- Oversee the commercial printing operation and build relationships with print customers to ensure efficient production schedules, quality service, and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Strong belief in the importance and value of local community journalism.
- Demonstrated success in advertising sales, business development, and revenue growth.
- Proven leadership and management experience preferred.
- Newspaper or media industry experience preferred.
- Understanding of digital media platforms, digital advertising, and emerging media trends.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to lead diverse teams while working effectively with community members, public officials, business leaders, and nonprofit organizations.
- Strong organizational, financial, and strategic planning skills.
- Customer-focused approach with strong problem-solving abilities
Pay: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
