ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a skilled and passionate Cook to support kitchen preparation and bring the TAPEO culinary experience directly to guests as a live-event cook. You will be central to our kitchen operation — keeping prep organized, maintaining the highest food safety standards, and showcasing your craft in front of live audiences at catered events, pop-ups, and private functions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Kitchen Prep
- Perform daily mise en place: washing, cutting, portioning, and organizing ingredients per recipe specs
- Prepare stocks, sauces, marinades, sofrito, and other base components ahead of service
- Monitor and rotate inventory following FIFO principles to minimize waste
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of prep stations, refrigerators, and storage areas
- Follow standardized recipes to ensure consistency in taste, portion sizes, and presentation
- Assist the lead chef in developing new menu items and seasonal specials
Live Event Cooking
- Set up and operate paella stations and tapas service at off-site events (catering, pop-ups, private dinners, corporate functions)
- Prepare and plate dishes in front of guests, maintaining professionalism and engaging with attendees when appropriate
- Adapt cooking pace to the flow of each event, coordinating closely with the front-of-house team
- Transport, set up, and break down event equipment safely and efficiently
- Represent the TAPEO brand positively through appearance, behavior, and food quality at every event
Food Safety & Compliance
- Adhere strictly to food safety regulations, proper temperature controls, and sanitation protocols
- Maintain valid Food Handler and Food Manager certifications throughout employment
- Complete daily temperature logs, cleaning checklists, and other compliance documentation
- Promptly identify and report any food safety concerns to the supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Valid Food Handler Certificate (state-issued or nationally recognized)
- Valid Food Manager Certification (ServSafe, National Registry, or equivalent)
- Minimum 2 years of professional cooking experience in a restaurant, catering, or event setting
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently under pressure and in high-volume environments
- Reliable transportation and flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and event-specific schedules
- Strong knife skills and proficiency with standard commercial kitchen equipment
Preferred
- Experience cooking at live events, pop-ups, or in a catering context
- Familiarity with Spanish cuisine, paella, or Mediterranean cooking traditions
- Culinary degree or formal culinary training
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills
- Knowledge of dietary restrictions and allergen awareness best practices
