The Director of Environmental Services / Plant Operator manages the physical integrity and daily operations of the Housekeeping, Laundry, and Plant Maintenance departments. This role requires a hands-on leader capable of troubleshooting mechanical systems while managing departmental administration, budgets, and staff compliance.
Plant Maintenance: Perform hands-on troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of facility HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. Diagnose equipment malfunctions.
Environmental Services: Direct housekeeping and laundry programs to maintain facility cleanliness and sanitary standards. Oversee linen and garment processing.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to Department of Health (DOH) regulations, OSHA, and local life-safety/fire codes. Maintain current SDS/MSDS records.
Staff Supervision: Recruit, train, schedule, and evaluate maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry personnel. Provide coaching and disciplinary action when necessary.
Order & Supply Management: Manage inventory, procurement, and vendor ordering for cleaning supplies, chemicals, tools, and maintenance equipment.
Fiscal Management: Oversee budget planning, expenditure authorization, and cost containment for all assigned departments.
Operational Support: Serve as relief staff or provide hands-on assistance during staffing shortages or facility emergencies.
Education: High school diploma, equivalent, or technical trade certification required.
Experience: 3–5 years of supervisory experience in facility management, plant operations, or environmental services.
Technical Skills: Proven, hands-on experience maintaining commercial HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical systems.
Compliance: Strong working knowledge of Department of Health (DOH) regulations and life-safety codes.
Health Screening: Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
Order Management & Budgeting: Proficiency in budget analysis, inventory tracking, and supply ordering software.
Problem Solving: Ability to work independently, make critical operational decisions under pressure, and handle emergency repairs.
Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to interact professionally with residents, families, staff, and state inspectors.
