Duties
- Greet patients warmly, verify their information, and facilitate efficient check-in processes using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Measure and record vital signs such as blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature to assist in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures, collecting medical histories, and documenting relevant information with precision.
- Assist cardiologists during diagnostic procedures including EKGs (electrocardiograms), X-rays, and other outpatient or inpatient tests within Level I Trauma Center standards.
- Support medication administration under supervision, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to safety protocols.
- Manage medical supplies and equipment inventory, including sterilization of tools and setup for procedures in various settings such as clinics or the OR (Operating Room).
- Perform basic ICD coding (International Classification of Diseases) for billing purposes and ensure accurate documentation of patient encounters.
- Support patient education efforts on topics like physiology, anatomy, geriatrics, or emergency medicine to promote understanding and compliance.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and hospital medicine practices across diverse specialties including dermatology, internal medicine, geriatrics, and medical-surgical care.
- Proven experience in hospital settings such as Level II trauma centers or Level I trauma centers with exposure to emergency medicine protocols.
- Skilled in using EHR systems for documentation, appointment scheduling, and patient data management with attention to detail.
- Excellent patient service skills with a compassionate approach to intake procedures and ongoing patient care across outpatient and inpatient environments.
- Ability to perform vital signs collection accurately and efficiently while maintaining patient comfort.
- Familiarity with ICD coding processes for billing accuracy; experience with X-ray procedures or PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) support is a plus.
- Knowledge of medication administration protocols within hospital medicine or urgent care settings; capable of supporting emergency medicine teams when needed.
- Experience working in hospital environments including Geriatrics units or Medical-surgical floors; previous OR or clinic experience is advantageous.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to ensure preparedness for emergency situations.
