Position Summary
The Cashier is the front-line representative of J&R Ace Hardware. This role focuses on providing excellent customer service, accurate cash handling, and maintaining a clean, organized checkout area. Cashiers ensure customers have a smooth, positive experience from the moment they enter the store to the moment they leave.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and provide helpful, friendly service
- Operate the POS system to process purchases, returns, and exchanges
- Handle cash, credit, and debit transactions accurately
- Maintain a clean and organized checkout area
- Assist customers with product questions or direct them to the correct department
- Perform item lookups and price checks when needed
- Enroll customers in Ace Rewards and explain program benefits
- Follow all store policies regarding returns, receipts, and payment handling
- Support front-end operations during busy periods
- Restock impulse items, bag merchandise, and help maintain store appearance
- Provide assistance to elderly customers or those needing help with loading items
Qualifications
- Previous retail or cashier experience preferred but not required
- Strong customer-service skills and a positive attitude
- Ability to handle transactions accurately and responsibly
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work weekends if needed
- Basic computer/POS skills
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs
