JOB TITLE: Dietitian
REPORTS TO: Administrator
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
JOB OVERVIEW: Will oversee the nutritional well-being of our patients. Will conduct nutrition assessments, identifying patients at risk and creating diet plans. Will provide nutritional education to patients and mitigate risk factors. Able to collaborate with physicians, therapists and nurses in order to tailor dietary services and improve patient outcomes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
a. Review dietary policies and procedures and. assist in the development and/or revision of such policies and procedures as needed.
b. Provide consultation to medical, nursing, professional staff of facility regarding dietary needs of facility?s patients, and contribute pertinent information to interdisciplinary care plans as needed.
c. Review nutritional documentation of all new admissions and patients at high nutritional risk including but not limited to: wounds, significant weight losses, underweight, tube feedings, renal failure or other acute episodes of disease management as determined by the RDN?s clinical judgement and/or physician?s order.
d. Review and approve all regular and therapeutic menus for facility?s patients and make recommendations to facility as appropriate.
e. Counsel patients and their families on nutritional principles, dietary plans, diet modifications and food selection as needed.
f. Monitors food service operations to ensure conformance to nutritional, safety sanitation and quality standards. Evaluate sanitation, meal service, and safety practices.
g. Documents all dietary activities on the interdisciplinary narrative notes following each consultative visit as well as on the interdisciplinary plan of care during the interdisciplinary team conference. Provide facility staff with a written report following each consultative visit.
h. Inspects conformance to prescribed diets, palatability, appearance, temperature, and appropriate consistency based on the specific needs of the patient.
i. Provides education to the facility staff on nutrition/ therapeutic diets and safety procedures at least semi-annually and on an as needed basis.
j. Perform other duties related to dietary issues as requested by the facility administrator.
